Our Engineering team creates innovative product experiences that power personalized marketing at massive scale. We develop cutting-edge applications and systems that process 100s of billions of messages and events per year, enabling marketers to connect effectively with hundreds of millions of consumers. You will collaborate with talented engineers, product managers, and designers to create innovative applications that empower marketers to meaningfully connect with consumers. As a Staff Software Engineer in our NYC-based product organization, you’ll have the opportunity to join one of two groups shaping the future of messaging:
In our Core Channels group, you will work to shape the future of personalized marketing by building scalable backend systems for our customer-facing messaging products. Your work will directly influence the delivery of billions of messages, enhancing consumer experiences and driving success for leading global brands.
In our Customer Growth group, you will build systems that personalize the journeys of end users across nearly a billion page views daily. You will work with a cross-functional team to build AI products that enable marketers to acquire subscribers and deliver revenue growth for their businesses.
What You'll Accomplish
- You understand how to negotiate with Product Management to meet the user’s needs without sacrificing quality or accruing tech debt
- You deeply loathe regressions and take proactive steps to protect against them through a variety of testing techniques
- You are constantly improving the quality of the project you are working on, both via code contributions as well as long-term advocacy for larger-scale changes
- Build amazing consumer experiences, taking responsibility for code quality, scalability, reliability and performance
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, fellow developers, and internal stakeholders to turn business goals into achievable technical roadmaps
Your Expertise
- You have worked professionally with web technologies for 8+ years
- You have development experience with either Java, Python or Go
- You have development experience with relational and non-relational databases
- You have development experience with streaming technologies
- You have experience architecting applications for high scale
- You have a proven track record of building applications that maintain a high bar of quality
- You are an empathetic communicator who can work seamlessly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and are adept at using business goals to turn that ambiguity into clear deliverables
- You are excited by new technologies but are conscious of choosing them for the right reasons
What We Use
- Our infrastructure runs primarily in Kubernetes hosted in AWS’s EKS
- Infrastructure tooling includes Istio, Datadog, Terraform, CloudFlare, and Helm
- Our backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Kinesis, AirFlow, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWS
- Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and Playwright
- Our automation is driven by custom and open source machine learning models, lots of data and built with Python, Metaflow, HuggingFace 🤗, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Pandas

- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $184,000 - $250,000 annually + equity + benefits
- Equity is a substantial part of the total compensation package
