We're looking for experienced infrastructure engineers to build and scale the foundation that powers Claude and enables millions of users to interact with AI. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Product Infrastructure team, you'll architect and build the reliable infrastructure primitives that power our API, Claude.ai, Claude Mobile, Claude Code, and future AI products.
This is a unique opportunity to tackle infrastructure challenges at the intersection of cutting-edge AI and massive scale. You'll architect systems that handle billions of API requests, build compute infrastructure that bridges research and production environments, and create storage solutions that work seamlessly across GCP, AWS, and diverse deployment models including first-party and third-party environments.
Responsibilities:- Design and implement infrastructure solutions that scale to support millions of users interacting with Claude across multiple products
- Build and scale OLTP database systems through 100x+ growth while maintaining reliability and performance
- Architect storage solutions that work seamlessly across GCP, AWS, first-party deployments, third-party deployments, and other environments
- Develop Kubernetes-based compute infrastructure and service mesh solutions for our growing product ecosystem
- Extend research infrastructure capabilities for production use, enabling rapid deployment of new AI capabilities
- Partner with product teams to understand requirements and build infrastructure that accelerates feature delivery
- Collaborate with research infrastructure teams to create synergies and shared solutions
- Make critical build vs. buy decisions for infrastructure components
- Set technical direction for product infrastructure
- Have 8+ years of experience building and scaling infrastructure systems
- Possess deep expertise in at least one of: OLTP database scaling, Kubernetes/container orchestration, or distributed networking
- Have successfully scaled infrastructure through massive growth at high-growth companies
- Can balance the speed of a startup environment with the reliability needs of production systems
- Excel at technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration
- Are passionate about building the infrastructure layer that enables next-gen AI products
- Deep expertise scaling PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, or similar database systems
- Experience with Redis, Temporal, RAG databases, or async job processing frameworks
- Experience building multi-cloud or hybrid cloud infrastructure solutions
- Expertise in Kubernetes, service mesh technologies, and container orchestration at scale
Note: Prior AI/ML infrastructure experience is not required. We value deep infrastructure expertise from any domain.
The expected salary range for this position is:
Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
