The Role
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a Staff iOS Mobile Engineer to join our Mobile Applications team. In this senior-most individual contributor role, you will play a critical part in driving the evolution of our native iOS application, crafting technical strategy, and mentoring engineers across the mobile organization. You'll lead multi-functional efforts to deliver high-quality, performant, and fabulous mobile experiences to millions of pet parents.
We're looking for someone with a deep understanding of native iOS technologies as well as hybrid mobile architectures and WebView-based solutions. You'll influence platform direction, solve sophisticated challenges at scale, and elevate the technical bar for the mobile organization.
What You'll Do:
  • Lead large-scale architecture initiatives and influence the mobile technical strategy across teams
  • Own and evolve hybrid architecture strategies, including WebView performance, integration patterns, and linking between native and web layers
  • Design, build, and maintain reusable Swift components and core systems used across the Chewy iOS app
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and design leadership to define and complete mobile product goals
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to iOS engineers, encouraging a culture of learning, accountability, and engineering excellence
  • Drive code quality through rigorous peer reviews, automated testing, and development standard methodologies
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and lead efforts to improve app reliability, startup time, and runtime efficiency
  • Evangelize engineering standards, architectural patterns (e.g. MVVM, Coordinators), and scalable development workflows
  • Stay ahead of iOS platform updates and champion the adoption of new tools, frameworks (e.g. SwiftUI, Combine), and approaches
  • Contribute to and help maintain the CI/CD pipelines and code signing infrastructure for the iOS platform
  • Partner with QA and automation engineers to ensure robust test coverage and high release confidence

What You'll Need:
  • 8+ years of professional experience developing native iOS applications using Swift
  • Deep expertise in hybrid mobile architectures and WebView integration, including performance optimization, offline fallback strategies, and native-web communication bridges
  • Demonstrated experience leading architecture design and driving technical decisions across teams
  • Strong understanding of modern iOS frameworks, patterns, and developer tools
  • History of delivering high-quality apps at scale, with frequent App Store releases
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence without authority
  • Passion for mentoring and supporting other engineers in their growth
  • Deep experience with Git, pull request workflows, and branching strategies
  • Experience with Cocoapods or Swift Package Manager for dependency management
  • Consistent record of writing and implementing unit, integration, and UI tests
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, distributed, and collaborative environment

Bonus:
  • Experience building Universal or iPad-first apps
  • Deep knowledge of accessibility and UI/UX standard processes
  • Experience profiling and resolving memory and performance issues with Xcode Instruments
  • Familiarity with SwiftUI, Combine, or other modern iOS frameworks
  • Experience working in Agile environments using tools like Jira or Confluence
  • Hands-on experience managing iOS CI pipelines and code signing infrastructure (e.g., Fastlane, Xcode Cloud, GitHub Actions)
