Summary Generated by Built In

StubHub is on a mission to redefine the live event experience on a global scale. Whether someone is looking to attend their first event or their hundredth, we’re here to delight them all the way from the moment they start looking for a ticket until they step through the gate. The same goes for our sellers. From fans selling a single ticket to the promoters of a worldwide stadium tour, we want StubHub to be the safest, most convenient way to offer a ticket to the millions of fans who browse our platform around the world.

StubHub is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to drive the next generation of technology that powers how millions of fans explore, interact with, and attend live events worldwide. You’ll lead a high-impact engineering team from a technical standpoint, making key architectural decisions and trade-offs and delivering critical systems that enable trustworthy, scalable, and insightful experimentation across all consumer-facing and internal applications.

As a strategic technical leader, you’ll define architecture, rapidly ship robust systems, and raise the technical bar for your team and the organization. You’ll translate ambiguous business needs into executable strategies, produce detailed work plans enabling parallel engineering execution, and drive measurable quality, performance, and feature velocity improvements. You'll be deeply embedded in shaping our commercial and product strategy, leveraging domain expertise to make decisions that reflect both user needs and business value.

About the team:
The Consumer Experience (CX) team is responsible for the end-to-end product experience for fans looking to discover, buy, and sell tickets to their favorite live events through our web and mobile platforms. It sits at the forefront of fulfilling StubHub’s mission to become the global destination for accessing live event experiences by crafting the product experience that millions of fans interact with every day. We are obsessed with understanding our users’ needs and delivering feature innovations, both short-term and long-term, that are as effective as they are enjoyable. We serve a global fan base and aim to deliver a localized experience that feels personalized to every individual in over 60 regions and 30 languages. We believe that diversity of thought and transparency of impact breed the best innovations, which is why we are a cross-functional team of specialists in product, design, engineering, and data working closely together with equal voice in ideation and equal access to insights. We work across the entire stack leveraging any tool or technology necessary to support web and mobile feature innovation at scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect, build, and own full-stack systems that power experimentation and accelerate innovation across StubHub’s digital platforms, ensuring scalability, resiliency, and high performance.
  • Set and uphold a high bar for engineering excellence through code reviews, architectural guidance, and hands-on contributions, while fostering a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Translate complex and ambiguous product or business goals into executable technical strategies, breaking down initiatives into well-scoped plans that allow multiple engineers to contribute effectively in parallel.
  • Serve as a thought partner to cross-functional stakeholders—product managers, analysts, designers, and data scientists—helping them understand what’s technically possible and influencing strategic direction with data and technical insight.
  • Drive real-time experiment tracking, analysis, and reporting across multiple touchpoints in the product.
  • Mentor and coach engineers across the team and broader organization, helping them navigate challenges, develop their technical skills, and grow into future leaders.
  • Proactively identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, or architectural risks and lead efforts to resolve them, making StubHub’s systems faster, more reliable, and easier to scale.

What You’ve Done:

  • Bring 10+ years of experience building and scaling complex, user-facing software systems, including deep contributions across both frontend and backend stacks.
  • Held a technical leadership role for 3+ years where you’ve successfully led complex projects, set architectural direction, and directly influenced team strategy and delivery.
  • Delivered production-ready applications using React (or similar frameworks), demonstrating fluency in building performant, intuitive, and accessible user interfaces.
  • Built systems that power data-driven decisions—whether through analytics, A/B testing, or interactive dashboards—by integrating with backend services, tracking frameworks, and data platforms.
  • Made meaningful business impact through technical solutions, including measurable gains in user engagement, revenue, or operational efficiency.
  • Collaborated across disciplines in a fast-paced, product-oriented environment, showing adaptability, curiosity, and the ability to learn new tools, domains, or technologies as needed.
  • Consistently raised engineering standards by mentoring peers, introducing best practices, and creating structures for scale and sustainability within high-performing teams.

What We Offer:

  • Accelerated Growth Environment: An environment designed for swift skill and knowledge enhancement, where you have the autonomy to lead experiments and tests on a massive scale.
  • Top Tier Compensation Package: Competitive base, equity, and upside that tracks with your impact.
  • Flexible Time Off: Embrace a healthy work-life balance with unlimited Flex Time Off, providing you the flexibility to manage your schedule and recharge as needed.
