We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Backend to join Procore’s Owners organization. In this role, you’ll drive the technical direction of our projects and help revolutionize a historically underserved industry. Your primary goal will be to develop products that impact how communities’ hospitals, homes, sports stadiums, and schools across the world are built.
As a Staff Software Engineer, Backend, you’ll partner with Engineering, Product, and UX teams to design and build solutions that delight users and solve critical business problems. This position reports to the Manager, Software Engineering and will be based in our Bengaluru, India office. We’re looking for someone to join us immediately.
What you’ll do:
Evolve our existing codebase from a monolithic Rails application into a modular system with clear, well-enforced domain boundaries and a coherent public interface.
Contribute to designing and building a system that aligns with our technical vision.
Dive deep into the PostgreSQL database layer to handle complex querying needs.
Enhance performance, flexibility, scalability, and security within our Rails backend.
Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and UX to design and build solutions that delight users and solve critical business problems.
Communicate complex problems and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders through conversations and design documents..
Collaborate across engineering teams on large-scale initiatives to further our goal of connecting everyone in construction on one global platform.
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or comparable work experience.
8+ years of backend development experience, preferably with Ruby on Rails.
Strong foundation in Object-Oriented Programming, Test Driven Development, Service-Oriented Architecture, and Design principles.
Comprehensive knowledge of development processes, including development, testing, staging, deploying, and monitoring.
Proven experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
Experience maintaining and developing APIs through REST or GraphQL.
Strong experience documenting and bringing team clarity to complex solutions.
Track record of anticipating technical problems that will fall out of major projects and designing solutions to overcome those problems.
Fluent in spoken and written English.
