Overview
The Staff Software Engineer L5 is a full-stack engineer who works across Agile teams to design, develop, test, and support scalable applications that power Inovalon's Real World Data platform. This role requires strong backend and UI capabilities, comfort operating across the full development lifecycle, and experience building data-intensive applications that ingest and transform large volumes of healthcare data. The ideal candidate brings AI-driven development practices to their day-to-day work and is equally at home writing production backend services and building clean, modern front-end experiences.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across the full stack, including both backend services and user-facing UI components.
- Develop and maintain backend services and APIs in Java and JavaScript; build and maintain front-end features using Angular or other modern web application frameworks.
- Work with SQL and Snowflake for data querying, transformation, and analysis; contribute to data ingestion and transformation pipelines supporting the Real World Data platform.
- Leverage AI-driven development tools and practices to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, and solve complex engineering problems; stay current with emerging technologies and front-end development trends.
- Support code reviews, testing, and release processes; contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
- Set direction and goals for the team regarding project impact, product quality, and engineering efficiency; lead major initiatives, rollouts, and phased releases.
- Provide mentorship to onboarding team members and enable successful ramp-up.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical issues outside standard business hours, ensuring timely response and resolution per defined SLAs.
- Maintain compliance with Inovalon's policies, procedures and mission statement.
- Adhere to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined within Inovalon's Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the undertaking of the position.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (B.A./B.S.) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology required
Experience
- 8+ Years of experience in software engineering, with demonstrated full-stack development experience across backend services and modern UI frameworks required
- 5+ Years of hands-on experience in Java and/or JavaScript required; experience with .NET, Python, or Go a plus
- 5+ Years of experience with modern front-end frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.js required; Angular strongly preferred
- Strong SQL skills required; experience with Snowflake is a plus
- Strong experience with AWS required; familiarity with GCP or Microsoft Azure a plus
- Experience with open-source frameworks, RESTful API design, and integrating front-end applications with back-end systems required
- Familiarity with distributed systems, microservice architectures, and CI/CD pipelines required
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes required
- Experience applying AI-driven development tools and practices in a production engineering environment preferred

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
