Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all .
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
Join Micron Technology as a Staff/Senior Engineer for Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS), based at Hiroshima plant, where you will serve as the on-site technical anchor while simultaneously leading Global AMHS network initiatives. This role is pivotal in driving KPI improvements, ensuring operational excellence, and establishing scalable best practices across Micron's worldwide fab network.
This position bridges site-level execution at Hiroshima plant with global AMHS strategy - accelerating issue resolution, reducing systemic risk, and elevating automation maturity across all high-volume manufacturing (HVM) sites - without increasing headcount at individual sites.
Hiroshima Plant Operations & KPI Ownership
  • Act as the global technical lead for AMHS operational governance across all Micron manufacturing sites
  • Drive alignment and standardization of wafer transport, storage systems, and carrier purge solutions spanning the network
  • Partner with site AMHS teams globally for real-time issue resolution and partner concern management
  • Develop and deploy global operational response strategies and standardized critical metric frameworks
  • Serve as the primary AMHS technical lead stationed at Fab15, owning day-to-day system performance and availability
  • Define, monitor, and drive improvement of AMHS critical metrics, including:
  • Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE)
  • System uptime and reliability
  • Carrier purge efficiency (N2/XCDA consumption)
  • Wafer logistics throughput and cycle time
  • Sorter throughput and scheduling efficiency
  • BWS and NTB availability and utilization rates
  • Vehicle/OHT idle time - monitor and minimize idle dwell time of overhead transport vehicles to improve fleet utilization and responsiveness
  • To-Tool Delivery Time (TTDT) - track and reduce carrier delivery latency from stocker/buffer to process tool, directly impacting fab cycle time
  • Storage Utilization & Optimization - analyze stocker, BWS, and NTB occupancy rates to eliminate bottlenecks and ensure optimal lot placement strategies
  • Cross-Fab/Floor Material Flow Optimization - handle inter-bay, inter-floor, and cross-fab transport efficiency to reduce unnecessary moves, congestion, and transport conflicts
  • Lead data-driven root cause analysis for recurring or high-impact AMHS events
  • Develop and maintain site-level recovery playbooks and Best Known Methods (BKMs)

Equipment KPI and Wafer Logistics Flow Optimization
  • Review and support equipment capacity modeling
  • Analyze Fab offload, Probe wafer shipment, and wafer logistics performance data to identify improvement opportunities
  • Lead Sorter, Bare Wafer Stocker (BWS) with equivalent experience, Near Tool Buffer (NTB) operational health, workload scheduling, and contamination control compliance
  • Optimize purge cycle efficiency, N2/XCDA usage, and system reliability
  • Drive system-level optimization across wafer logistics including FOSB, HWS, BHWS, Hybox Packer/Unpacker automation solutions
  • Optimize NTB utilization to minimize tool starvation and reduce inter-bay transport demand
  • Support system build reviews, upgrades, and modification projects

Sophisticated & Emerging Automation
  • Lead evaluation and deployment of next-generation automation technologies relevant to AMHS and wafer logistics-Auto Packer/Unpacker process.
  • Ensure smooth transition of new technologies into stable production operations at Fab15 and across global sites

Global Collaboration & Influence
  • Collaborate across Engineering, Operations, Construction, IT, EHS, Procurement, and Supplier teams across regions
  • Influence site and network leadership decisions through clear, data-backed technical recommendations
  • Mentor and develop AMHS engineers globally, raising technical depth and operational maturity across the network

Supplier & Program Leadership
  • Own technical engagement with global AMHS and automation suppliers, including build support, operations oversight, and roadmap alignment
  • Support capital planning, technical scope definition, and major automation programs
  • Ensure supplier solutions meet Micron's requirements for operability, maintainability, and long-term sustainability

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field)
  • 5-10 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, AMHS, or factory automation
  • Proven experience leading large-scale, complex automation systems in high-volume manufacturing environments
  • Strong systems thinking with demonstrated ability to influence across organizations, geographies, and disciplines
  • Solid understanding of AMHS KPI frameworks and data-driven continuous improvement methodologies
  • Scripting & Automation Literacy: Proficiency in scripting or programming languages to automate routine reporting, data extraction, KPI dashboards, and operational workflows - reducing manual effort and accelerating insights
  • Strong Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences across all levels of the organization - including engineers, operations leaders, and executive stakeholders
  • Cross-cultural Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively across diverse, multicultural, and geographically distributed teams
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Mindset: Structured, data-driven approach to identifying root causes and driving sustainable corrective actions
  • Influence Without Authority: Ability to align and drive decisions across organizations, geographies, and disciplines without direct reporting authority
  • Self-directed & Adaptable: Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with global or multi-site engineering governance
  • Deep knowledge of AMHS systems, AMHS scheduling logic, and semiconductor contamination control
  • Familiarity with Sorter, BWS, NTB, N2 purge solutions and wafer logistics automation
  • Prior experience stationed at a high-volume Fab with cross-functional leadership exposure
  • Japanese language proficiency (spoken and/or written) is highly preferred, given close collaboration with Japanese equipment suppliers and fab counterparts in the region (e.g., Shin-Etsu, Murata Machinery/Muratec, Daifuku, etc.)
