WHY BOX NEEDS YOU

As a Staff Security Engineer specializing in foundational platform and framework security, you will lead efforts to design, develop, and enhance security controls embedded within Box’s core platforms and architectural patterns. Your work will ensure that Box’s software platforms and development frameworks maintain a resilient security posture, supporting scalable and compliant product innovation. This role requires deep expertise in application and platform security, threat modeling, automation, collaboration across engineering teams and strong software engineering skills.

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

• Lead the design and implementation of security architectures and controls for Box’s foundational platforms, including identity, API integration, frontend frameworks and mobile security.

• Conduct architectural risk assessments and develop secure components and patterns to make our platforms and frameworks secure-by-design.

• Collaborate closely with engineering, product management, security architecture, production security, and compliance teams to integrate security into our new platform development.

• Drive continuous improvement by researching emerging threats and vulnerabilities.

• Mentor and guide security engineers on finding and remediating security problems at scale.

• Influence company-wide security standards and contribute to organizational knowledge sharing around platform security strategies.

WHO YOU ARE

• Experienced security engineer with 12+ years in software or security engineering roles, including significant experience architecting and securing large-scale platforms or distributed systems.

• Deep understanding of platform security domains such as identity management, cryptography, API security, supply chain security, and cloud infrastructure security.

• Skilled in threat modeling, architectural risk assessment, and designing secure-by-default frameworks.

• Strong programming skills and familiarity with modern cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern service development (K8s, microservices, service mesh).

• Growth mindset with proactive problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills to engage technical and leadership audiences.
