The Role

Job Title:Staff Scientist, Analytical

Summary:Design, initiate, and execute experiments for the characterization of silicone polymers and formulations by chromatography, wet chemistry, spectroscopy, and material characterization techniques.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support product development through rheological characterization of polymers/formulations.

  • Compile, analyze, and interpret analytical data.

  • Generate technical insights, structure-property, and performance relationships to enable new product innovation and technology development.

  • Present written and verbal results to internal customers both regionally and globally.

  • Lead and support multiple analytical projects and perform lab work to meet deadlines.

  • Work closely with other R&D business units, manufacturing sites, and technical teams to solve challenging problems related to products and customer issue resolution.

  • Participate in global analytical network to leverage best practices and standardize methodologies across global sites.

  • Comply with company procedural guidelines, laboratory procedures, and safety protocol.

  • Adapt to change by learning other analytical characterization techniques.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of post-baccalaureate, progressive experience as a Staff Scientist, Chemist, or in a related Research Scientist role.

  • In place of a Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of post-baccalaureate progressive experience, will accept a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field and 3 years of experience as a Staff Scientist, Chemist, or in a related Research Scientist role.

Special Requirements:

Work experience with:

  • Spectroscopy: FTIR, UV-Vis, ICP, XRF;

  • Wet Chemistry: Auto-titrator, Karl-Fisher titrator;

  • Chromatography: GC/GCMS, HPLC, GPC;

  • Materials Testing: TMA, DSC, DMA;

  • Designing, initiating, and executing experiments for the characterization of silane species, silicon polymers, and formulations;

  • Supporting product development through rheological characterization of polymer formulations;

  • Sample preparation, instrument operation, and data operation; and

  • Analytical instruments maintenance and troubleshooting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, crouch, twist, turn, lift, and move about the facility. Walking, walking on irregular surfaces, and balancing will be required. Reaching, feeling, finger movement, grasping, hearing, sight, and the ability to speak clearly will be required. Regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. The ability to wear personal protective equipment and the ability to pass a fit test and wear a respirator is required for most positions.

What We Offer:

Base Pay Range: $125,000-$163,900

The actual salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography. Additionally, this role is eligible for incentive or sales variable compensation payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company's incentive plans, the Company's financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.
