Staff Reliability Engineer

Hypertherm Associates is searching for a Staff Reliability Engineer to join the team. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can break down complex systems into testable subcomponents and subassemblies, with a strong understanding of how those elements interact within the full system.

This role requires the ability to interpret system requirements, field use, potential failure modes, and translate them into effective test strategies, including the use of block diagrams and structured approaches to validation.

If you are energized by building scalable reliability systems, developing predictive models, and strengthening product robustness through data-driven insights, this is your opportunity to shape the reliability capability of a growing, multi-technology organization.

As the Staff Reliability Engineer, you will:

  • Improve Reliability Engineering policies, standards, and scalable methodologies aligned with industry best practices and ISO9001 compliance

  • Lead and sponsor FMEA, FTA, Hazard Analysis, and system safety efforts

  • Design and analyze reliability tests (ALT, HALT, degradation, life data)

  • Develop Weibull and degradation-based life models

  • Perform regression and statistical modeling to predict product life and failure modes

  • Translate field and lab data into reliability growth actions

  • Drive end-to-end program reliability by integrating predictive modeling, risk assessment, and test strategies

  • Lead and audit DFR activities to connect risk analysis with quantitative validation and field performance data

  • Apply advanced reliability engineering and statistical modeling to transform degradation data, test outcomes, and field returns into targeted, actionable design improvements

Who you are and the experience you bring:

  • Bachelors in STEM with 8+ years of progressive reliability experience

  • Design and execution of tests in both open and controlled environments, including the use of environmental and stress equipment such as HALT, thermal shock, and environmental chambers

  • Demonstrated ability to build and interpret life prediction models (Weibull, lognormal, degradation-based approaches)

  • Influence and align cross-functional teams with competing priorities to drive cohesive decisions and forward progress

  • Lead integration of risk analysis outputs (FMEA/FTA) into quantitative, validation strategies

  • Apply advanced statistical analysis using tools to derive failure mode parameters (β, η) and drive high impact engineering decisions

  • Coach and mentor engineers on reliability methodologies, statistical modeling, and data interpretation

  • Ability to translate complex engineering challenges using diverse analytical techniques, anticipates risks, and incorporates customer feedback from global stakeholders to guide design direction

Location: Hanover, NH or Kent, WA
