PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES: This position will provide psychological services for WSH patients including but not limited to initial assessment, safety assessment, safety planning, psychological testing and assessment, and court testimony related to Western State (WSH) patients. This position will provide education and training opportunities as well as clinical supervision and feedback for predoctoral interns in an APA Accredited Internship and for post-doctoral residents seeking hours for licensure and Health Services Provider designation.  Other duties may include participating in treatment teams, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, behavioral supports, and testing/assessment services for WSH patients, as well as providing crisis intervention services to staff when needs arise. Potential oversight/supervision of other licensed and non-licensed psychology staff.  Occasional on-call weekend and holiday coverage is expected.

  1.  Job knowledge – possesses working knowledge.

      1. Theories of psychopathology
      2. Theories of psychotherapy
      3. Appropriate psychological tests
      4. General hospital policies and procedures
      5. Departmental policies and procedures
      6. Appropriate OIG, CMS, and JCAHO standards
      7. An understanding of developmental milestones related to adulthood and the aging process.
  2. Quality – accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness
    1. Maintain thorough and accurate documents of therapeutic interventions.
    2. Appropriate application of Department of Psychology’s operating policies and procedures
    3. Effective utilization of therapeutic techniques
    4. Develops appropriate individualized treatment plans following approved treatment plan guidelines.
    5. Completes appropriate legal documentation related to care at Western State Hospital
    6. Ability to demonstrate, guide, and direct psychological practice in the provision of care.
    7. Maintain monitoring and evaluation of psychological care through the quality assurance program in the Department of Psychology.
    8. Administers, scores, analysis, and interprets appropriate psychological tests.
  3. Productivity – quantity of work expected of the job assignment.
    1. Acceptance of assigned duties in the practice of psychology.
    2. Flexibility in performing duties related to assigned units.
    3. Ability to work with others in an efficient and timely manner.
    4. Attendance at regularly scheduled meetings relating to the practice of psychology.

    5. Appropriately utilizes resources such as other people, equipment, facilities, and materials.

Qualifications

Doctorate Degree is clinical or counseling psychology from an accredited university with Kentucky licensure. Must be a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Kentucky or be permitted to practice psychology on a temporary basis by the Kentucky Board of Examiners in Psychology while license is obtained (i.e., have a passing EPPP score but waiting for date to take and to pass the jurisprudence/structured exam).  License must be approved within one year of employment and application for license evident.  Must accept supervisor of record from within Western State Hospital staff or related CMHC staff if necessary.
