Job Description
We're hiring a Staff Product Service Engineer with deep expertise in PostgreSQL and Mariadb to support, optimize, and scale our database-backed services. This role is pivotal in ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability across customer-facing platforms and internal systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical engineer for database operations, focusing on PostgreSQL and Mariadb environments
- Diagnose and resolve complex production issues related to database performance, replication, and availability
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design scalable data architectures and service integrations
- Automate routine maintenance tasks and contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and backup strategies aligned with SLAs and compliance requirements
- Provide guidance on schema design, query optimization, and data lifecycle management
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to service reliability best practices
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and MariaDB in production environments
- Strong understanding of database internals, indexing strategies, replication, and failover mechanisms
- Proficiency in SQL performance tuning and query optimization
- Experience with DevOps automation, CI/CD pipeline and agile methodologies
- Experience with backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery planning, and data migration
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, pg_stat_statements)
- Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar for automation and tooling
- Ability to be on-call during a weekend (once +- every 2 months).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud-hosted database services (e.g., Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL)
- Knowledge of containerized database deployments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices related to database changes
