WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead the UX vision for our AI financial coach, defining how it speaks, guides, empathises, and supports users day-to-day.
- Design conversational flows, reasoning paths, and interaction patterns that feel intuitive, safe, and emotionally intelligent.
- Design and contribute to evaluation frameworks (LLM conversation tests, scenario scripts, task success criteria) to ensure the AI coach behaves consistently, safely, and with the right personality.
- Partner with ML teams to shape how models respond, explain decisions, and escalate to human-readable formats.
- Build frameworks for tone, behaviour, escalation, and guardrails — maintaining trust, clarity, and compliance.
- Continuously optimize the coach based on behavioural data, success signals, and user feedback.
- Design the full engagement system that helps users build habits: streaks, missions, challenges, milestones, progress arcs, and reward feedback.
- Craft motivational loops that turn financial actions into small “wins” — celebrating progress without manipulation or dark patterns.
- Develop visual languages, animations, and pacing that make progress feel alive and emotionally reinforcing.
- Partner with behavioural scientists to design systems grounded in proven psychology (intrinsic > extrinsic motivation).
- Personalise gamification based on user context, goals, and risk profile.
- Define and evolve the end-to-end interaction model across the entire app, ensuring the AI coach, gamification, insights, and financial features feel cohesive and part of a single behavioural system.
- Establish and maintain a scalable design system for AI + gamification, including components, motion principles, and usage guidelines that enable fast delivery across product, engineering, and brand teams.
- Translate complex financial data into clear, reassuring experiences, shaping information architecture, decision logic, and user flows in ways that genuinely support better financial habits and demonstrate meaningful impact
CORE PRODUCT DESIGN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define the long-term design vision for a consumer financial wellness app that blends UX, conversation, automation, and game mechanics to positively change financial behaviour and reduce anxiety.
- Translate Trustly’s data, payments, and open banking capabilities into accessible, friendly, high-clarity user experiences.
- Lead end-to-end design for new features: research, flows, prototypes, UI, interaction design, narrative structure, and polish.
- Work closely with engineering to ensure design intent is implemented with quality, performance, and scalability.
- Build reusable systems, component libraries, and interaction patterns that support a fast-moving product team.
- Measure success through user behaviour, engagement, and improvements in financial health — not just aesthetic quality.
- Present design decisions and strategies clearly to executives, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders.
WHO YOU ARE
- 7+ years of Product Design, UX, Game Design, or Interaction Design experience, ideally with consumer apps or fintech.
- A designer who thinks in systems, not just screens — you understand loops, motivations, branching paths, and long-term user journeys.
- Experience designing gamification systems, achievements, reward loops, or habit-forming mechanics.
- Skilled in crafting complex, non-linear flows, like narrative interactions, branching dialogue, evolving user states, or progression systems.
- Comfortable designing for AI-driven interfaces, including conversational UX and model behaviour constraints.
- Able to work closely with ML teams, understanding how data inputs, model outputs, and guardrails impact design.
- A clear communicator who can articulate design decisions to engineers, product managers, researchers, and executives.
- Comfortable with rapid prototyping, user testing, and shipping iteratively in a fast-moving environment.
- Deep empathy for users struggling with financial anxiety, and a passion for designing tools that genuinely improve financial well-being.

What We Do
At Trustly, we envision a world in which online payments are fast, simple and secure for everyone — merchants, consumers and banks alike. One hundred years ago, cash was king. People got paid in cash, carried it in their wallets, and bought things with it at the local store. Payment was easy. Oh, how the times have changed. Today, our salaries are deposited straight into our bank accounts and we shop online, from merchants all around the world. So why is it so hard to pay straight from our bank accounts? For consumers, paying online should be as easy as sliding a bill across the counter. And accepting payments and issuing refunds should be the least of merchants’ worries. Credit cards, debit cards, e-wallets, invoices and cash-on-delivery are all middlemen levying fees, debt and interest for the simple task of moving money from one person to another. At Trustly, we work hard to make online payments easy.
