The Role
Lead a small ME team to develop customer-facing electromechanical and electronics features from concept through prototype, validation, production release, and sustaining. Design HMI and consumer-electronics style components, integrate with other systems, perform bring-up and reliability testing, rapid prototyping, and support field failure analysis and production ramp.
Summary Generated by Built In

The new Ford Universal EV Platform and Ford Universal EV Production System were born from a team that combines the discipline, expertise and scale of a company with 122 years of experience with the speed, innovation and first-principles thinking of a California-based electric vehicle hardware and software skunkworks team.  The result: a simple, efficient, flexible ecosystem to deliver a family of affordable, electric, software-defined vehicles – the first of which is a midsize, four-door electric pickup that will be assembled at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant for U.S. and export markets. Its launch is scheduled for 2027.

Advanced EV’s Design Concept Engineering team is looking for a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our fast-paced development, working on cutting-edge features with complex hardware, sensors and software.  You will be responsible for developing product architectures and technology concepts, particularly in the areas of electronics systems. This includes development of early prototypes and new technologies leading into scalable mass production. This work focuses on product-differentiating, customer-facing designs for new products features and development.  A good candidate would have a strong background in consumer electronics or user-focused automotive electronics. Experience with working with oversea CMs and production processes are preferred.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do…

Lead ME team – Set direction and monitor progress of 2-3 junior mechanical engineers working on production-intent product line.

Concept Design – Work with design studio/product/marketing to create new products in our portfolio to bring new electromechanical/digital experiences to the automotive space.

Product Development Drive development from concept through prototyping, engineering development builds, validation, production release, and sustaining/field failure analysis.

Bring up and validation – Bring up designs done in-house and at JDM/OEM. Test designs for reliability and validity. Implement changes to address issues found.

Rapid Prototyping – Create quick, simple designs to execute design vision of the studio team using off the shelf parts or quick-fabricated parts. Understand tradeoffs being made for velocity and mitigate risks that impact team progress.

System Integration – Work with other engineering teams to integrate designs into our vehicles.
