Job Description

The Team

Ad Products & Add-Ons helps hirers choose and use products that improve customer experience, value and sustainable business growth. We build and operate the APIs, UI widgets, business logic and product-catalogue capabilities that power these experiences, including products designed to increase hirer value, reach and yield.

Our work sits at the intersection of product experience and monetisation. We make it simpler and more relevant for hirers to discover, select and use add-ons and related products, while supporting SEEK’s broader goal of improving product mix, budget utilisation and sustainable revenue.

You will work across a broad engineering and product community, including software engineers, staff and senior staff engineers, engineering managers, product managers, designers, data engineers, business analysts, architects, security, AI, platform and other engineering teams. Success depends on influencing without hierarchy, creating clarity across boundaries, and making dependencies, risks, ownership and technical decisions visible.

The Role

You will design and build fit-for-purpose products, platforms and services; strengthen system health; and help create the engineering practices that allow people and AI-enabled tools to deliver safely and effectively. You will connect technical decisions to customer and commercial outcomes, lead through ambiguity, and make the trade-offs required to keep delivery sustainable over time.

A modern Staff Engineer at SEEK works across domains, is not overly stack-focused, and uses sound judgement to balance delivery, quality, security and maintainability. They are deeply curious, continuously learning, and willing to experiment with new technologies and ways of working. They use AI and emerging tools responsibly to improve engineering practice, while applying strong judgement and establishing practical guardrails for safe use.

You’ll also be a hands-on technical leader in the team’s day-to-day work, helping shape architecture, guide delivery, support production incidents, improve engineering practices, and make repositories and workflows more AI-ready. AI is changing how software is built and how SEEK creates customer value, so you will be expected to use AI coding tools as part of your normal engineering practice and to help the team establish repeatable, measurable and safe workflows. You will also contribute hands-on technical leadership to production LLM and agent capabilities where they are relevant to HMI products and systems.

Key Accountabilities

  • Own the technical direction, architecture and evolution of the team’s services, systems and platforms.

  • Set and maintain a pragmatic roadmap balancing customer value, reliability, security, resilience, observability, cost, performance and technical debt.

  • Lead design, development, testing, deployment and operation of scalable software and APIs.

  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex production issues, driving learning, remediation and prevention.

  • Improve developer experience and delivery flow through strong CI/CD, testing, observability, documentation and operational practices.

  • Use endorsed AI coding tools responsibly across the delivery lifecycle, and help make the team’s repositories, workflows and practices more AI-ready.

  • Lead by example in adopting AI for engineering, sharing learnings and lifting capability across the wider engineering group.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience designing, building and operating production software systems, APIs or platforms in cloud environments.

  • A track record of staff-level technical leadership, including shaping architecture, setting direction, evolving platforms and influencing outcomes beyond a single team or implementation.

  • Strong architectural judgement across secure coding, CI/CD, testing, observability, incident response, resilience, performance and cost.

  • The ability to connect technical roadmaps and engineering investment to customer value, commercial outcomes and broader product strategy.

  • Experience making pragmatic prioritisation decisions when technical quality, product needs, risk and delivery commitments compete, and keeping delivery sustainable over time.

  • Strong cross-functional influencing and communication skills, including the ability to state a clear point of view, negotiate priorities, make decisions visible and create alignment without hierarchy.

  • Experience increasing team and organisational leverage through standards, guidance, governance, documentation, communities of practice, presentations, coaching, pairing or other repeatable mechanisms.

  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools and agentic workflows, with evidence of improving engineering productivity or software quality through safe, measurable and practical adoption.

  • Experience delivering LLM-powered applications, agents or workflows in production, or demonstrable equivalent judgement around quality, safety, human oversight and operational risk.

  • A strong learning mindset, curiosity about emerging technologies and a habit of sharing practical insights with the wider engineering community.

  • The ability to remain hands-on while operating across domains and avoiding an overly narrow focus on a particular stack or implementation.
