Description of Work

The Preconstruction Division provides project and program management services, professional and technical contract support, planning, analysis, and design functions for all modes of the Department. The Division supports overall program and project delivery department wide, offering specialized expertise from early planning and preconstruction through construction.
We are looking for a Division Staff Engineer.
In this role you will:
•work collaboratively with the Division Director and division leadership to advance Division priorities.
•perform research and analysis, recommendation development, resource planning, communication strategies, change management, implementation, performance tracking, and overall operational support.
•support digital delivery, modern workflow advancement, and organizational readiness.
•coordinate project management and project team training programs.
•plan and execute conferences and knowledge sharing events, produce internal and external communications, and organize content for recurring meetings with internal teams and external partners.
•blend strategic planning with hands on coordination, to ensure smooth operations, effective communication, and continuous improvement Division-wide.
•work autonomously with minimal direct supervision to provide strategic, programmatic, and operational leadership across the Division.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC20  $70,478 to $123,336

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Experience proactively anticipating problems, developing solutions, and resolving unusual and unique problems and situations.
  • Experience developing, interpreting, and administering policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of professional engineering, techniques, practices, and procedures; NCDOT organizational structures; and budgetary planning.
  • Experience establishing and managing priorities, developing work schedules, monitoring schedule and goal progress, and tracking data and activities.
  • Experience anticipating and resolving problems, working cooperatively with others, influencing others to achieve results, and enhancing organizational effectiveness and project delivery.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

Skills Required
