Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Software Engineer Lead to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located onsite in El Segundo, CA.
Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector team is seeking a talented and highly motivated Software Engineer to continue advancement in our leading-edge software for our most advanced systems. This project involves the design and demonstration of software in hands on environments through the use of software simulations and real-time software.
AccomplishThis position will involve leading simulation integration and sensor ICD development for a hardware in the loop demo at the end of 2026 that utilizes VMS tools and architecture. It requires experience developing and deploying VMS software solutions of real-time hardware.
Primary responsibilities will be design, development, integration and testing of software systems. This person must enjoy working in a fast paced and dynamic team environment. They should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This position offers multiple opportunities to work with other highly energetic team members both within the immediate team as well as coordinate collaborative development across projects and teams.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 12 years of experience; OR Master’s Degree in STEM discipline with 10 years of relevant experience; OR PhD Degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of relevant experience
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
Proficient in C++ and Python
Experience in design and development of simulation models
Experience and proficiency with using Atlassian toolset (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence)
Preferred Qualifications:
Current Active In Scope Secret or Top Secret level security clearance
Proficient in MATLAB
Proficient in Lua scripts
Experience with VxWorks
Experience developing and deploying VMS software solutions of real-time hardware
Experience with advanced algorithms and complex design
Experience with Agile development processes
Experience leading a technical team, design reviews, supporting change control boards, working groups, program management reviews
Able to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and development environments
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Enjoy working in a fast paced and dynamic team environment

Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
