Position Title: Staff Engineer – Mechanical Design
Department: HB Engineering
The Bloom Energy Mumbai team seeks a highly motivated Engineer to support its Fuel Cell Hotbox Engineering team. The Staff engineer will be an integral part to drive the conceptual design, analysis, and execution of highly engineered SOFC powered systems. The role bridges early-stage R&D with manufacturing, demanding expertise in CAD, cross-functional engagement, and compliance with strict industrial standards
Roles and Responsibilities:System Design & Engineering:
- Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned components for advanced Solid oxide fuel cell components and systems
- Develop ideas and concepts to improve design and reliability of mechanical components of HotBox, columns and other SOFC sub-systems as assigned by stakeholders
- Very strong fundamentals on thermodynamics, mechanics, heat transfer, and metrology with ability to reason through ambiguous problem statement and break it down into tangible and actionable steps.
- High degree of comfort in performing hands-on work and ability to prototype and test out concepts quickly
- Ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders, making independent decisions within defined requirements to resolve complex technical design challenges
- Review designs and consult with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work
- Participate in a team framework on next generation technology development to enable future design advancements, while independently executing tasks leveraging your technical skills.
- Maintain documentation of designs, test results, and engineering change orders
- Prepare CAD models, drawing, specifications, and detailed design basis documentation for solid oxide fuel cell system and component design
Analysis & Validation:
- Work closely with modeling team to evaluate the design and iterate the design based on feedback from the CFD and FEA team.
- Lead prototype testing programs in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams to characterize and improve reliability and durability
Manufacturing & Sourcing:
- Work with manufacturing, supply chain and quality team to ensure DFM (design for manufacturing)
- Works closely with sourcing and manufacturing to support cost reduction activities
Key Skills Required:
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles. heat transfer, thermal stresses and drafting practices.
- Demonstrated problem solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses and complete documentation
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD modeling, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Knowledge of high temp material and ceramics is desirable
- Good understanding of the structure and properties of engineering materials
- Demonstrate good failure analysis and root cause analysis skills.
- Must be willing to do Hands-on testing on projects.
- Demonstrate a hard-working attitude and self-motivation.
- Good written and verbal communication.
- Team player.
- Motivated self-starter, capable of organizing tasks with little to no oversight
- Good interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish effective cross-functional working relationships; Ability to effectively participate in multi-disciplinary teams.
Education:
- BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Master’s in Mechanical/Material Science/Aerospace is essential
Experience: Between 6-8 years of related experience in the field as mentioned above.
