The Opportunity:

Are you a seasoned Engineer passionate about building scalable and resilient search infrastructure systems at the heart of a global commerce platform? We're looking for a Staff Engineer Search Infrastructure to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will be at the heart of modernizing and optimizing our core infrastructure capabilities, ensuring a seamless and high-performing experience for our customers and other teams.

This role offers a hybrid work environment with three days a week in one of our local offices. We're ideally looking for candidates based in or close to London, Munich, Berlin, or Valencia. However, we are also open to considering candidates based remotely in the UK, Germany, or Spain.

 
Your Mission:
  • Architecting and implementing our search clusters on AWS and GCP, driving the modernization of our search infrastructure to support our evolving platform
  • Pioneering the future of our search infrastructure by leading the technical conversation, creating and driving RFCs, and influencing key design decisions
  • Fine-tuning and optimizing our systems for peak performance and efficiency, ensuring an infrastructure supporting  lightning-fast search experience for our users
  • Developing robust tooling to streamline critical workflows like user management, empowering engineering teams and enhancing overall productivity
  • Automating and scaling our Elasticsearch clusters, transitioning from manual processes to a fully automated, resilient solution
  • Partnering with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, and operations to deliver seamless search experiences and robust solutions

What you need to succeed:
  • Relevant experience in infrastructure development, with a focus on building and maintaining internal tools
  • On-the-job experience working with Rust as it is a core part of our technology stack
  • Proven ability to design and implement scalable and resilient systems that can handle high loads and maintain high availability
  • Hands-on exposure and deep understanding of modern CI/CD deployment pipelines
  • Strong familiarity with Elasticsearch is essential
  • Hands-on exposure to MongoDB, ideally with using MongoDB Atlas Cloud
  • A pragmatic problem-solver with a passion for building robust internal tools and a knack for operational excellence
  • Comfortable operating in the latest technologies and have a solid background in DevOps
