As a Staff Embedded Software Architect, you will play a critical role in designing and developing embedded software solutions for complex electro-mechanical subsystems. Your expertise in embedded systems design will be essential as you work closely with cross-functional teams, including systems, electrical, and biological engineers, to innovate and enhance clinical analyzers.
This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days onsite at our headquarters in Westbrook, Maine.

In this role:
- Utilize your knowledge of Linux embedded systems, C, C++, Python and Lua throughout all phases of software development, from prototype collaboration with scientists and instrumentation engineers to integration and product development with software engineers, ensuring maintainability and scalability.
- Demonstrate technical leadership with a team of talented and highly collaborative embedded engineers.
- Develop embedded software systems within a comprehensive product framework, focusing on controlling electro-mechanical components.
- Conduct in-depth analysis to break down complex problems into manageable components, ensuring optimal product performance.
- Expand instrument capabilities efficiently while maintaining architectural integrity.
- Enhance and support the functionality of premium instruments by delivering high-quality embedded software solutions.
- Translate system requirements into functional specifications.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and meet demanding timelines.
- Review designs and implementations to ensure adherence to requirements and standards for quality, clarity, maintainability, scalability, and performance.
What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of experience in embedded software engineering.
- Proficiency in Embedded Linux, C, and C++.
- Familiarity with Linux Kernel device drivers and application coding.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Lua, Bash, or Python.
- Buildroot or Yocto experience.
- Exemplary communication, collaboration, and persuasion skills.
- Strong emphasis on quality in all aspects of work.
- Proven experience in embedded software design and development.
- Solid background in embedded systems design.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Expertise in creating and documenting architectural designs.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Passion for developing innovative products that improve animal health.
