Join Stryker Medical’s Acute Care team, where we design high-acuity hospital products that directly impact patient care—such as beds, stretchers, and support surfaces. We are seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to lead the end-to-end development of electrical components and subsystems for medical devices, from early research through product launch, ensuring compliance with medical device standards. In this role, you will gain deep insights into customer needs through research, collaboration with upstream marketing, and direct clinician interactions. Working with a diverse, cross-functional team, you’ll design, develop, evaluate, and verify innovative electrical solutions that improve patient outcomes.
What You Will Do
Design & Development: Independently design electrical components and subsystems, including schematic capture, layout, and failure mode analysis for PCBAs, cables, and electromechanical parts.
Testing & Analysis: Develop advanced circuit/system test methods; analyze EMI/EMC, reliability, safety, cost, and manufacturability.
Prototyping & Problem-Solving: Conduct advanced prototyping, troubleshoot complex design issues, and balance trade-offs.
Customer & Market Insight: Translate user needs into design inputs; support Voice of Customer sessions; apply clinical knowledge to inform design.
Compliance & Documentation: Lead design controls, risk management, and creation of Design History File per regulatory standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management teams to ensure project success.
What You Will Need (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
4+ years of electrical design experience in product development.
Advanced understanding of electrical components, failure modes, and manufacturing methods.
Proficiency in CAD and circuit design/analysis tools.
Ability to interpret system drawings and design for mechanical/software/electrical interactions.
Knowledge of EMI/EMC, reliability, and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in medical device development or other regulated industries.
Familiarity with design controls, risk management, and quality systems.
Knowledge of electromechanical systems and integration with software.
Advanced proficiency in PCB design tools and electrical simulation software.
Understanding of clinical environments and user needs.
Demonstrated ability to lead projects or mentor junior engineers.
