The Role
Own electrical design standards and reference architectures for low-voltage power systems supporting high-density AI data centers. Lead designs from transformer secondary through rack-level distribution, perform electrical studies, develop technical documentation, evaluate designs, coordinate with facilities and engineering teams, and support equipment selection, testing, construction, commissioning, and failure investigations. The role requires office presence in San Francisco or San Jose four days per week and travel to project sites and partner facilities as needed.
Summary Generated by Built In

Lambda, The Superintelligence Cloud, is a leader in AI cloud infrastructure serving tens of thousands of customers. Our customers range from AI researchers to enterprises and hyperscalers. Lambda's mission is to make compute as ubiquitous as electricity and give everyone the power of superintelligence. One person, one GPU.

If you'd like to build the world's best AI cloud, join us.

*Note: This position requires presence in our San Francisco or San Jose office location 4 days per week; Lambda’s designated work from home day is currently Tuesday.

What You’ll Do

  • Own electrical design standards and reference architectures for low-voltage systems supporting high-density AI infrastructure.

  • Lead design from transformer secondary through switchgear, UPS systems, distribution equipment, busway, and rack-level power delivery.

  • Develop architectures for 480V and 415V, AC systems serving GPU clusters and supporting infrastructure.

  • Define requirements for low-voltage switchgear, switchboards, UPS systems, static transfer switches, PDUs, RPPs, busway, rack PDUs, grounding, metering, and monitoring.

  • Model equipment loads, GPU power behavior, transient demand, harmonics, redundancy, capacity, and electrical failure domains.

  • Develop and review single-line diagrams, panel schedules, equipment specifications, sequences of operation, and basis-of-design documents.

  • Evaluate greenfield, retrofit, and partner-provided designs for reliability, efficiency, maintainability, constructability, cost, and schedule.

  • Perform or oversee load-flow, short-circuit, selective-coordination, arc-flash, voltage-drop, and power-quality studies.

  • Coordinate electrical requirements across data center facilities, mechanical systems, HPC architecture, hardware engineering, construction, and operations.

  • Support equipment selection, factory testing, construction sequencing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, and root-cause investigations.

  • Travel to project sites, manufacturers, and partner facilities as needed.

You

  • Have experience designing low-voltage electrical systems for data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large industrial environments.

  • Understand low-voltage distribution, UPS topologies, switchgear, busway, grounding, rack-level distribution, and electrical monitoring.

  • Understand redundancy models such as N, N+1, 2N, distributed redundant, and catcher architectures.

  • Can develop and review single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, coordination studies, and commissioning documentation.

  • Have experience with ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or comparable electrical analysis software.

  • Understand applicable electrical and safety requirements, including NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NETA standards.

  • Can translate IT equipment requirements into safe, scalable, and maintainable facility designs.

  • Communicate clearly across engineering, construction, operations, vendors, and executive stakeholders.

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with hyperscale, colocation, HPC, or AI data centers.

  • Experience delivering power to high-density GPU racks or liquid-cooled computing infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with dynamic GPU loads, power transients, harmonics, rack-level monitoring, or power-capacity optimization.

  • Experience supporting factory acceptance testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing, or failure investigations.

  • Experience in Low Voltage (400, 800V DC) Converters, distribution and protection devices.

  • Experience with PSCAD, other EMT simulation tools or System Stability Analysis

  • Professional Engineer licensure or progress toward licensure.
