Indiana Masonic Home Compass Park is looking to add a Staff Development Coordinator & Infection Preventionist. Compass Park is a vast 320-acre community in the heart of Johnson County adjacent to Indianapolis. It is a vibrant community through all seasons and a place of beauty, rich in tall trees and winding footpaths. This job is in Franklin, IN.
Staff Development Coordinator & Infection Preventionist Responsibilities:
- Direct and coordinate C.N.A. classes for the campus.
- Coordinate staff education to comply with regulatory standards and provide ongoing education as needed.
- Assist in developing and maintaining nursing service objectives, standards of nursing practice, nursing policy and procedure manuals, written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel, scheduling of rounds to see all residents, methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services.
- Monitor employee relations practices to ensure practices that maintain high morale and staff retention to include effective communication, prompt problem resolution, positive supervisory practices, and maintaining a positive work environment.
- Plan and implement nursing orientation, job skills training, and in-service education programs in accordance with company policies and regulations.
- Develop and implement an ongoing infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infections in order to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment.
- Establish facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infections and communicable diseases of residents, staff, and visitors.
- Participate in the development of written policies and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice and recognized guidelines for infection prevention and control.
- Oversee the facility’s antibiotic stewardship program.
- Oversee resident care activities that increase risk of infection (i.e., use and care of urinary catheters, wound care, incontinence care, skin care, point-of-care blood testing, and medication injections).
- Lead the facility’s Infection and Prevention Control Committee. Develop action plans to address opportunities for improvement.
- Participate on the facility’s QAPI Committee. Perform duties as assigned.
- Implement an annual infection control risk assessment process and participate in the facility’s annual facility assessment review process.
- Review and/or revise the facility’s infection prevention and control program, its standards, policies, and procedures annually and as needed for changes to the facility assessment to ensure they are effective and in accordance with current standards of practice for preventing and controlling infections.
- Provide education related to infection prevention and control principles, policies, and procedures to staff, residents, and families (where appropriate).
- Report communicable disease within the time requirements of the ISDH and other accrediting organizations
- Complete surveillance of resident infections, serving as a resource for the campus on any pandemic planning.
- Keep current on guidelines and regulations regarding infection control and preventionist
- Maintain CPR and TB Certifications.
- Monitor care activities and documentation to ensure the delivery of nursing care according to the physician’s orders, care plans, and established standards and facility policies.
- Participate in Clinical Administration call rotation.
Staff Development Coordinator & Infection Preventionist Requirements:
- RN with no disciplinary action in effect against professional licensure.
- One (1) or more years of experience in infection control preferred
- Current CPR Certification.
- Possess or eligible for Nurse Aide Training Instructor certification.
- Oversee employee annual in-service training program that complies with state and federal guidelines.
- Education, training, experience, or certification in infection control and prevention. Completed specialized training in infection prevention and control through accredited continuing education.
- Knowledge of nursing and medical procedures under ISDH guidelines.
- Requires knowledge of local, state, and national regulations and standards and their impact on infection control.
- Assess the educational needs of staff.
- Coordinate training programs based on identified needs for the campus.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills while interacting with employees, residents, and families.
- Experience as a supervisor in a long-term care facility or other related health care facility required.

Skills Required
- Registered Nurse (RN) with no disciplinary action against licensure
- Experience as a supervisor in a long-term care facility
- One or more years of experience in infection control
- Current CPR certification
- Maintain TB certification
