Position Overview and Objective
Lead the technical vision for Arctic Wolf's cloud security platform while architecting scalable backend systems that protect thousands of organizations from cyber threats.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll drive technical excellence across our cloud engineering teams, leading the design and implementation of mission-critical backend services that power Arctic Wolf's endpoint security solutions. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to shape our cloud architecture and mentor engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Lead design of scalable, resilient backend services supporting endpoint security
Drive architectural decisions for distributed systems, microservices, and cloud infrastructure
Partner with Principal Engineers and Engineering Managers on technical strategy
Design and implement complex backend systems for cybersecurity data processing
Build high-performance APIs and services handling millions of security events
Mentor Senior and Mid-level engineers on technical design and best practices
Collaborate with Product, Security, and DevOps teams on technical solutions
Research and evaluate emerging technologies for cloud security platforms
Lead proof-of-concepts for new architectural approaches and technologies
Drive adoption of AI-powered development tools and AI-assisted engineering practices to enhance developer productivity, code quality, and system design
Experience & Requirements
- 8-12+ years in backend engineering with 3+ years in technical leadership roles
- Expert Programming: Advanced proficiency in Go, Python, or Java for backend development; C#/.NET experience is a nice-to-have
- Cloud Architecture: Deep expertise in AWS, distributed systems, and cloud-native design patterns
- Security Domain: Understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat detection, and security data processing
- Distributed Systems: Expert knowledge of microservices, event-driven architectures, and scalable system design
- API Design: Expertise in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and service integration patterns
- Cloud Platforms: AWS expertise including Lambda, ECS/EKS, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS
- Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Infrastructure as Code practices
- Data Systems: Experience with databases, data streaming, and large-scale data processing
