As our Staff Architect for AI Applications, you will join the senior architecture team at Credit Karma and lead a technology roadmap that matures our AI capabilities, working with product leadership to power intelligent experiences that make it easier for our members to achieve their financial goals. This is a challenging role. It will require the ability to combine solid foundational engineering skills - the skills needed to build complex consumer scale applications - with the knowledge, experience, and agility to apply nascent and volatile technologies like generative AI. Within this role, you will collaborate across all engineering teams and product development organizations, and be a trusted advisor to senior and executive leadership.
What you'll do:
- Drive a holistic technical strategy for building AI powered experiences and capabilities - at consumer scale - across a number of interdependent engineering teams, architects, systems and offerings.
- Influence and shape the frameworks, abstractions, and patterns used by product development teams to apply AI to solving customer problems
- Guide the applicability of AI to customer problems through a deep understanding of the value and limitations of AI technologies
- Partner closely with senior product leadership to continuously connect business outcomes to our AI technology strategy
- Be the technical expert, researching, evaluating, and implementing state-of-the-art technology in the AI space (open source, third party)
- Apply strong technical documentation and presentation skills to communicate architectural and design options at all levels, including to executive leadership.
- Grow a strong engineering culture - set and evangelize vision, facilitative leadership, attract and retain key talent. Talent steward for the engineering organization, mentor rising leaders

- High-level understanding of how AI models work, the different types of AI models that exist, and their pros and cons
- Understanding of the latest tools and technologies that apply AI to real-world applications
What we are looking for:
- 10+ years of experience designing complex distributed systems, management products, or business applications
- Full-stack development experience with AI technologies and tools; applying it to user experiences or backend solutions.
- Experience with AI technologies like SageMaker, Vertex, LangChain, Large Language Models, Prompt Engineering, DialogFlow, Python
- Experience with at least one of the following:
- Front-end technologies like React, Angular, SwiftUI (iOS), Kotlin (Android)
- Back-end technologies like Java, Typescript, Spring, Express (NodeJS)
- Prior working experience in a cloud computing environment like AWS or GCP is highly desired
- Prior experience working in teams that have built AI native applications for 1+ years
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related area, or equivalent experience

Pay Transparency Notice: Credit Karma’s mission of championing financial progress for all starts from within. That’s why we implemented role-based compensation, which ensures people who are in the same role receive the same pay with variations for geographic location only. It’s all part of a more comprehensive DEI strategy that helps level the playing field. The base salary for this role is $402,578, plus equity and benefits.
