Summary Generated by Built In

At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But that’s just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.

Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you’re in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you’ll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories we’re writing together. Now is a unique moment in time where it’s early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and picking up momentum. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.

About the Team:

The Additive Technology team operates at the frontier of research and development, where creativity meets capability. This is an R&D-driven environment where problems are open-ended and solutions are yours to define. You’ll work alongside welders, robotics engineers, data scientists, and systems engineers at the intersection of hardware and software, creating an end-to-end additive manufacturing platform that serves a wide variety of applications. From exploring new materials to unlocking faster print speeds, to designing complex, organic geometries that can’t be built any other way, it’s high-impact work that sets the foundation for the future of additive manufacturing.

About the Role:

  • Develop, implement, and refine multiphysics simulation models for metal additive manufacturing processes using commercial and custom software.
  • Perform calibration, verification, and validation of simulation models using experimental/physical testing data from AM builds.
  • Support development of automated workflows for parametric studies, uncertainty quantification, and sensitivity analyses using scripting languages and high-performance computing.
  • Prepare detailed documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate model findings, limitations, and recommendations to stakeholders. • Collaborate with process, materials, design, and manufacturing teams to translate simulation insights into actionable process changes.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in AM process modeling, simulation methodologies, and additive manufacturing process control.

About You:

  • BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • 8+ years relevant experience. - Strong understanding of heat transfer, mechanics, mechanical behavior of metal and alloy materials and metallurgy
  • Proficiency with multiphysics analyses involving solid and/or fluid mechanics using tools such as ABAQUS, ANSYS FLUENT, Flow3D, or equivalent.
  • Experience with automated and dynamic meshing techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, C++, Fortran) to automate workflows and extend the capabilities of CAE tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to optimize processes and validate models against real-world results.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Experience with high-performance-computing environments for large-scale simulations.
  • Experience with thermodynamic simulations for phase transformation analysis and material property prediction.
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary optimization
  • Experience working with version control systems (e.g. git).
