About the Staff Accountant:
The Staff Accountant works with the Finance team and other Agency members to ensure data integrity and controls over agency cash, including proper allocation of accounting journal entries, as well as providing for control over assigned balance sheet accounts.
We are looking for a team member who has a:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 1-3 years of relevant experience, required
- Must possess computer skills necessary to meet the production demands of the job, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), E-mail systems (Outlook), and accounting software systems (e.g. Blackbaud or similar), required
- Good conceptual grasp of GAAP as it pertains to balance sheet recordkeeping
- Excellent organizational, communicative, and attention to detail skills
- Background in Not-for-Profit accounting is preferred
In this Staff Accountant role, you'll get to:
- Provide for general accounting support surrounding daily, weekly and monthly cash controls, including preparation of monthly bank reconciliations
- Maintain and record daily bank activity reports for multiple bank accounts. Transactions include:
- Deposits – checks, ACH transactions
- Payments – ACH transactions, wire transfers, rental units
- Bank to bank transfers
- Scan checks for remote deposit, or deposit checks in-person to bank as needed
- Record bank activity into organization’s accounting software via journal entries that conform to the proper general ledger account structure
- Reconcile operational bank statement to organization’s internal accounting records
- Verify deposits, payments, cleared checks, and other activity
- Maintain outstanding check register
- Reconcile payroll bank account for manual checks accuracy
- Reconcile special events bank account, maintaining a separate activity report for all fundraising, pledges, and donation related deposits. Work with the Development Team to ensure these deposits are appropriately recorded in compliance with GAAP standards.
- Calculate external invoices to rental property clients for utility costs per lease stipulations
- Process credit card payments for external clients and insurance providers as required
- Support general finance department functions, including Billing and Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Internal Reporting
- Assist with general ledger account analysis and the maintenance of related documentation for specific balance sheet accounts
- Provide support for year-end audits, compliance audits, and other miscellaneous schedules and requests as needed
