This position is based out of the San Francisco office and open to a hybrid schedule once onboarding and orientation is complete. 

Role Overview

Walker Warner's ideal Staff Accountant is a detail-oriented, dependable finance professional with solid accounting fundamentals and ability to multitask and prioritize multiple assignments. They provide accurate and timely financial information while working comfortably with project teams and leadership. They bring a collaborative, service-minded approach to support a design-driven studio. Curious and organized, they look for ways to improve processes and support a successful architecture firm as it grows. 

Primary Responsibilities

To support the Director of Finance in carrying out the various responsibilities of the Finance department. 

  • Perform general ledger accounting/bookkeeping for the firm
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements, including general ledger, income statement, balance sheet and other financial reports and analysis
  • Assist in Director of Finance in budgeting and forecasting 
  • Oversee Accounts Payable to ensure timely vendor payments and processing of credit card statements
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable functions, including preparation of monthly invoicing and posting of cash receipts
  • Support timesheets and expense report administration in Deltek Vantagepoint, as well as the administration of the firm’s credit card program
  • Prepare semimonthly payroll and other payroll processes, including payroll journal entries, and 401k and profit sharing reconciliations
  • Assist in the oversight of project budgets and perform ad hoc data analysis to support architectural project teams
  • Participate in the development, implementation and compliance with Finance, Accounting and Operational policies
  • Support filing taxes, audits and insurance renewals
  • Perform ad hoc duties and analysis as required by Director of Finance and/or Firm Management
  • Support Director of Finance in the review of contract language and preparation of contracts 
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and recommend solutions to the Director of Finance
 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Minimum of two years of related accounting experience; within A/E/C, design or other professional services industry is preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar project accounting software is a plus
  • Payroll experience preferred
  • Proficient in Google Workspace
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines and a strong attention to detail are required
  • Ability to work with sensitive financial information in a discreet manner
 

Compensation and Benefits

Walker Warner Architects offers a competitive compensation package including fully paid health benefits for employees, profit sharing, employer 401(k) contribution, generous paid time-off and flexible spending accounts, plus so much more. 

The hiring base annual salary range for this position is $88,000-$100,000, full time exempt status. Any offer of compensation will be determined by a candidate’s education, skills, and experience as assessed during the interview process.
