Description

This position supports County Farm Bureaus with their day-to-day accounting needs, including payroll, tax filings, financial statements, and budgeting. The Staff Accountant assists with keeping financial information accurate, organized, and up to date. The role also provides general accounting support to the organization and works with others to answer questions and complete routine accounting tasks. This position will report to the Director of Accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements for County Farm Bureaus.
  • Be a helpful accounting contact and build positive working relationships with county leaders and coordinators.
  • Keep accounting records, journal entries, and account classifications accurate and aligned with accounting standards.
  • Assist County Farm Bureaus with budgeting and understanding financial information.
  • Support day-to-day accounting activities, including transaction entry, bank reconciliations, and month end processing.
  • Assist with payroll processing and employee payroll record maintenance within the Paychex software.
  • Provide assistance with annual reporting for County Farm Bureaus.
  • Take part in month-end and year-end closing tasks.
  • Help answer accounting questions and recommend practical solutions. 
  • Provide backup support for accounting functions when needed.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field preferred; Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Two or more years of accounting experience preferred. 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals at all organizational levels. 
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining accuracy, organization, and consistency.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. 
  • Working knowledge of accounting procedures and practices.

Authority

  • Responsible for meeting assigned deadlines.
  • Exercises independent judgment in carrying out responsibilities. 

Relationships

  • Work closely with County Farm Bureau’s, Field Service Managers, and other KFB Staff. 
  • Collaborate with members of the Operations division (including Accounting, IT, and Human Resources). 
  • Participate in organizational activities and committees as requested.

Physical Requirements

Requires ability to operate telephone, computer, and other standard office equipment. Must maintain a valid driver’s license. Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform routine office activities. May require the ability to load and unload materials. Regular attendance (as defined by the Employee Handbook) is a function of the job.

Skills Required
