General Position Summary:

Under the guidance of the Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accounting system’s General Ledger, including account reconciliations, monthly and annual reporting requirements, fixed assets, budgets, and financial analyses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Documents/Oversees the recording and verification of financial transactions in the General Ledger.
  1. Responsible for General Ledger month-end closing and year-end closing.
  1. Reconciles all cash accounts.
  1. Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  1. Participates in the production of required monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting in the finance department.
  1. Reconciles the Federal 330 Grant monies and processes the grant draws.
  1. Prepares for and facilitates annual financial audit.
  1. Participates in the budget process; makes recommendations of allowable dollar amounts and inputs into the financial reporting software.
  1. Maintains fixed asset inventory.
  1. Maintains investment accounts.
  1. Reviews biweekly payroll submission and monitors quarterly tax filings.
  1. Responsible for keeping current with legislative updates and monitoring compliance with regard to payroll-related issues.
  1. Performs ad hoc financial analyses as requested.
  1. Responsible for purchasing activities by establishing, maintaining, and monitoring vendors and purchasing practices. Also serves as the liaison between JHC and Commonwealth Group Purchasing.
  1. Communicates and ensures that staff follow all policies and procedures for purchasing.
  1. Submission of annual 1099s.
  1. Supervises the Accounting Assistant.
  1. Participates in as a senior management team member in the absence of the Chief Financial Officer.
  1. Special projects as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.
  1. Manages provider stipends.
  1. Reconciles and completes daily bank deposits.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance is required.
  1. Two (2) years’ experience in the related field preferred.
  1. Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving ability and the ability to set priorities and advance projects successfully.
  1. Previous experience with accounting software preferred.
  1. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Excel (intermediate level proficiency required).
  1. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  1. Exceptionally self-motivated and directed.
  1. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and establish priorities.
  1. Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in an atmosphere of multiple demands.

Physical Demand and Working Environment:

Fast-paced office setting with travel to other offices often. Lifting and/or exerting force up to 15 pounds occasionally, with frequently moving of objects. Work requires speaking, sitting, bending, walking, standing, hearing, and stooping, kneeling, and repetitive motion with certain activities. 8 hours of constant computer usage. OSHA low-risk position.
