Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate financial reporting, day-to-day accounting operations, and compliance within a healthcare environment. This role maintains general ledger activity, prepares reconciliations and journal entries, assists with month-end close, and supports audits, budgeting, and regulatory reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with confidential financial, patient-related, and employee information.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, post, and review journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.

• Maintain general ledger accounts and reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts, including cash, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activity.

• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including account analysis and variance explanations.

• Prepare financial statements, schedules, management reports, and other accounting reports as assigned.

• Support budgeting, forecasting, expense analysis, and cost reporting activities for departments and/or service lines.

• Review invoices, vendor statements, deposits, reimbursements, and other transactions for accuracy, timeliness, and proper coding.

• Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to information requests.

• Help ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, organizational policies, and healthcare-related requirements.

• Maintain accurate and organized financial records in accordance with retention, confidentiality, and privacy standards.

• Collaborate with finance, operations, department managers, billing teams, and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and improve workflows.

• Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.

• Three to five years of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience; healthcare experience preferred.

• Working knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting practices.

• Experience with accounting software, financial systems, and Microsoft Excel.

• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion, including information governed by healthcare privacy expectations.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.

• Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and research discrepancies.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively.

• Familiarity with healthcare revenue cycle, grants, cost reporting, contractual allowances, and provider-based accounting is a plus.

• Commitment to continuous improvement, internal controls, and ethical financial practices.

Skills Required
