Summary

In this newly created role, the successful candidate will provide direct support to the Accounting Manager in establishing an Accounting Center to help streamline the close process. The Staff Accountant will play an integral role in the close process and will also be responsible for various reporting throughout the month. The role will entail working closely with key site-level personnel. The ideal candidate should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, possess strong analytical skills, and have the ability to build rapport with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Journal Entries and Balance Sheet reconciliations.

  • Coordinate posting and reconciliation of intercompany transactions.

  • Ensure transactions adhere to internal controls and accounting procedures.

  • Support preparation of monthly and quarterly reporting statements.

  • Compile and upload KPIs in accordance with close deadlines.

  • Lead and support delivery of assigned projects.

  • Assist with ad hoc tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • 2-3 years of relevant accounting experience in a fast-paced environment.

  • Candidates working towards a CPA designation are preferred but not required.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Able to work within tight close deadlines and excel in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.

  • Superior communication and teamwork skills.

  • Must possess a desire to effect change and make a difference in the organization.

  • Experience with ERP systems (Cognos/TM1) and accounting systems (Workday) is an asset.

  • Advanced MS Excel skills and working knowledge of Google Workspace.

  • A background in the waste industry would be an asset.
