Since RCD was established in 1984, we have developed or preserved over 75 communities that provide affordable, high-quality, and service-enriched affordable rental housing to over 3,000 low-income households throughout the Bay Area. RCD is actively growing, with more than 1,000 new units of affordable housing in development or under construction. The Role

The Staff Accountant, under the direction and supervision of RCD’s Corporate Controller, will have responsibility for general accounting. Responsibilities are grouped into Accounting and Cash Management with a focus on audit, portfolio, and corporate accounting. The roles and responsibilities of the Staff Accountant are integral to the core operations of RCD’s business, and the fulfillment of RCD’s mission. The candidate will join a growing team and company with a strong track record, industry position, and trajectory.

Responsibilities

Property Accounting

  • Under the direction of the Corporate Controller, oversee audits for properties in operation:
  • Review financials, troubleshoot issues with and provide adjusting entries to property management company accountants, prepare audit schedules, and resolve auditor questions
  • Review draft audits
  • Support Asset Management on financial reviews of assigned properties in portfolio
  • Troubleshoot accounting questions, prepare interim journal entries as needed, flag key issues, assist in review and understanding of financial statements
  • Prepare and reconcile schedules for general ledger accounts
  • Work with lenders to reconcile loan confirmation discrepancies

Corporate Accounting

  • Support preparation of quarterly corporate financial statements
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries as assigned
  • GL Account reconciliations
  • Assist in preparation of consolidated audit schedules
  • Prepare monthly corporate cash flow

Other (10%)

  • Support the redesign of accounting systems in collaboration with Corporate Controller
  • Special projects as needed

Requirements

Qualifications & Skill Set

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • 1-2 years' accounting experience (preferable in property, affordable housing, or audit)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Prior experience contributing to audits
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Asset Management functions
  • Knowledge of Tax Credit, HUD, Housing Authority 
  • Proficient in Yardi, MRI, Nexus (or similar property management/accounting

Work Environment

 RCD is currently practicing a hybrid work model. Depending on your distance from our main office in Berkeley, you will be expected to work up to two days in the office.

Travel Requirements

The responsibilities of this position will require occasional travel to off-site locations around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak and hear. Requires frequent use of a keyboard, computer monitor and phone. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally. RCD offers competitive benefits including: paid vacation and sick leave; health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance; pre-tax flexible spending and commuter plans; and employer contributions to a retirement savings plan.

The salary range for this position is $84,560 to $ 89,010, based on factors including experience, qualifications, role specialization, and market conditions. Salary placement within this range considers current and past employees' salaries for similar roles, budgetary limits, and market demand.
