About the role
Job Type: Full-time
Job Overview:
The Staff Accountant owns the daily accounting, reconciliations and supporting schedules for ROGII’s three US entities. The role keeps the US books ready for close and audit every month, so the Group Controller can focus on consolidation and oversight of the global group.
This is a hands on role for an accountant who likes clean reconciliations, complete documentation and well built schedules, and who wants early exposure to intercompany, IP royalty, multistate tax and international group accounting.
The Group Controller leads accounting for the whole group; this hire becomes the dedicated owner of the US books.
You will work alongside an established accounting team:
- Accounts Receivable: invoicing, collections and cash application
- Accounts Payable: vendor bills, payment runs and vendor records
- Credit Card Accounting: corporate card coding, receipts and reconciliation
- Accountant, Rogii Canada: Canadian entity accounting
The Staff Accountant for US Entities reviews and ties out what AR, AP and credit card accounting post for the US entities, and is the first point of contact for the Group Controller.
Responsibilities:
Time allocation is approximate and will shift around month end, year end and tax deadlines.
Reconciliations and Month End Close (≈30%)
- Prepare monthly bank, credit card and loan reconciliations for all US entity accounts, clearing reconciling items within 30 days
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly, including prepaids, accruals, intercompany, fixed assets, debt and equity, and tie them out to subledgers and support
- Reconcile intercompany balances between the US entities and foreign affiliates, and prepare elimination support for consolidation
- Post recurring and adjusting journal entries with documented support, on the close calendar set by the Group Controller
- Prepare close packages: trial balance, reconciliation binder and flux analysis with explanations for material variances
Schedules and Technical Accounting (≈25%)
- Royalties: Under supervision, maintain the royalty calculation schedule for IP licensed by RNA Capital to group companies; calculate, invoice and book intercompany royalty income and expense in line with license agreements and transfer pricing policy
- Dividends and equity: maintain schedules of distributions and dividends, shareholder equity rollforwards and supporting board/shareholder approvals
- Fixed assets and depreciation: maintain the fixed asset register (additions, disposals, transfers, tagging); calculate book depreciation and maintain tax depreciation (MACRS, bonus, Section 179) for the tax preparer
- Capitalized software and R&D: maintain schedules splitting development spend between capitalized and expensed costs under company policy and ASC 350-40; support Section 174 capitalization/amortization and R&D tax credit (Section 41) documentation
- Leases: maintain the lease inventory and ASC 842 schedules (right of use assets, lease liabilities, amortization), including new leases, modifications and terminations
- Intercompany loans: track intercompany transactions, advances and notes, accrue interest at the documented rate (e.g., AFR), and keep loan documentation current
GL Review, Contracts and Audit Trail (≈20%)
- Review GL activity posted by AP, AR and credit card accounting for the US entities: correct coding, entity, period and class/department
- Review new and amended customer, vendor, license and intercompany contracts for completeness (signed, dated, terms captured) and confirm the accounting treatment and billing match the contract
- Maintain a contract register with key terms, renewal dates and accounting impact
- Ensure every transaction has complete backup (invoice, approval, contract, receipt) filed in the document repository, so any entry can be traced from source to GL
- Identify and propose reclassifications; help write and maintain accounting policies and desk procedures
Sales Tax, Property Tax and Compliance (≈15%)
- Prepare and process multistate and local sales and use tax filings and payments; reconcile sales tax liability accounts to filed returns and resolve state notices
- Prepare annual Business Personal Property Renditions (Texas and other jurisdictions) from the fixed asset register, and track property tax assessments and payments
- Track compliance calendars: sales tax, property tax, franchise tax, 1099 reporting, annual reports and registered agent filings
- Prepare federal and state estimated tax payment support and reconcile tax payments in the GL to filed returns
Audit, Tax and Ad Hoc Support (≈10%)
- Support the Group Controller on consolidation, entity restructuring, process improvements and special projects
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2 to 4 years of general ledger accounting experience in public accounting or industry
- Hands on experience owning month end close tasks and balance sheet reconciliations
- Working knowledge of US GAAP, including fixed assets (ASC 360) and leases (ASC 842); familiarity with cash vs. accrual basis
- Experience preparing sales and use tax filings and payments
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (or a comparable cloud GL) and advanced Excel: lookups, pivot tables, structured schedules
- Strong documentation habits: every number tied to support, every schedule reproducible by a reviewer
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA license, or actively pursuing it
- Experience with intercompany accounting, royalties/IP licensing or transfer pricing in a multinational group
- Exposure to capitalized software development costs, Section 174 and R&D credit documentation

- Software or technology industry background; energy sector exposure a plus
- Experience supporting external audits or tax return preparation (PBC lists, workpapers)
