The Savannah Convention Center is currently seeking a full time Staff Accountant to join our team.   The Staff Accountant is responsible for a wide range of financial tasks ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency within the organization. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the preparation of accurate and timely customer invoices; processing cash receipts; preparation of management reports; preparation of event profit and loss statements; reconciliation of bank statements; reconciliation of accounts to ensure financial integrity; Develop and maintain up-to-date Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all accounting functions; assist in annual audit and any other functions and duties assigned by the Director of Finance and Administration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Events management to include preparation of event settlement and event final closing.
  • Billing multiple sources of revenue.
  • Processing cash receipts and coding to revenue, reserve, etc.
  • Contract review and file maintenance.
  • Data entry and preparation of customer invoices for events, advertisers and miscellaneous activities.
  • Revenue reconciliation.
  • Aging reports, collections and tracking of outstanding receivables.
  • Identify, research, and resolve problems within customer and G/L accounts, which may require journal entries and accruals.
  • Reconcile balance sheets and bank reconciliations.
  • Process daily bank deposits.
  • Maintain filing for deposit records.
  • Prepare and submit monthly Sales Tax Return.
  • Performs other functions, duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance and Administration.
Qualifications

WORKING CONDITIONS

Standard office setting.  May be required to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends according to event schedule, in addition to working normal business hours.




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks & to manage workload using own initiative.
  • High degree of integrity, accuracy, and compliance
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles & procedures
  • Thoroughness in task approach, follow-up & completion
  • Accurate and detailed oriented
  • Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word)
  • Outstanding verbal communication and customer service skills

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
College degree with emphasis on accounting, finance or business preferred.  Minimum four (4) years in an accounting function.  Experience may serve as a substitute for education on the basis of two (2) years’ experience for one (1) year of education. Computer literate.  Experience in an Accounting Software package.  Knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint preferred.  Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
