Carter Lumber is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team. This position supports a variety of accounting functions, including general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, capital expenditure and fixed asset accounting, financial reporting, and personal property tax reporting.
Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of financial statements and general accounting principles
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across departments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; intermediate to advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling financial and business information
  • This will be an onsite position at the corporate office in Kent, OH
Responsibilities:
Accounting
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, including construction-in-progress and other balance sheet accounts, and research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Track capital projects for store locations and manufacturing facilities from start to finish, including coding invoices, communicating with field locations and internal departments, and determining appropriate capitalization treatment.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset records, including additions, transfers, disposals, and self-constructed projects.
  • Prepare and record intercompany journal entries.
  • Review financial statements for the company’s Transport operations and research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with consolidated accounting activities, month-end and year-end close, and other accounting projects assigned.
Reporting
  • Prepare, maintain, and reconcile reporting related to capital expenditures and the capital budgeting process.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of personal property tax returns for Carter Lumber entities.
  • Support financial audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and supporting information as requested.
  • Prepare and maintain financial and operational reports as required by management.

Skills Required
