Provides accounting services as a member of General Accounting.

Job Description

The Staff Accountant, General provides accounting services within General Accounting, supporting accounts receivable and auxiliary business units. Core responsibilities include preparing journal entries, generating financial reports, and maintaining accurate monthly general ledger account reconciliations. Additionally, this role actively participates in the monthly and annual ledger close processes and assists with University audits. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform monthly and year-end close of the general ledger. 

  • Create, record and approve various journal entries.

  • Work closely with representatives from Shared Services and Auxiliaries to maintain financial records.

  • Responsible for the ERP set up related to various business units within the University.

  • Prepare workpapers and draft related footnote disclosures for the year-end audit.

  • Responsible for monthly reconciliations for the University related, but not limited, to accounts receivable and auxiliary business units.

  • Monitor the General Accounting mailbox, and research and respond to accounting questions submitted through this mailbox.

  • Coordinate the completion and submission of the annual NCAA audit workpapers.

  • Prepare certain state regulatory financial reporting.

  • Escrow accounting.

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or General Business

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 year or more of professional experience

  • Active CPA license, or have met qualifications to sit for CPA exam

  • Experience with ERP software system(s)

  •  Experience with fund accounting

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in Excel and other relevant analytical software.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), analytical, time management and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of GAAP and accrual based accounting

  • Ability to work independently and within constraints of deadlines

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

  • Working knowledge of FASB and/or GASB guidance
