This is a remote position.
The SSIS Developer / Database Administrator will support the Railroad Commission of Texas on the Mainframe Transformation project. This senior-level role performs complex Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) development, documentation, and related project and operational work within the Information Technology Services (ITS) Division. The role focuses on moving critical agency data between Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases through SSIS and Oracle SQL/PL-SQL automation. Responsibilities include designing and managing database systems, data warehouses, and ETL data interfaces, along with reviewing proposed system changes and providing technical guidance to technical and non-technical staff. The position works under general supervision with moderate latitude for independent judgment and may involve assigning, reviewing, or supervising the work of others.
Responsibilities
- Develop automated ETL solutions using Microsoft SSIS and Oracle platforms.
- Perform analysis and research of application functionality and interpret project requirements to develop technical specifications for ETL functionality.
- Determine database requirements by analyzing business operations, applications, and programming, reviewing business objectives, and evaluating current systems.
- Apply current development methods and techniques and establish development standards, including coding, documentation, and testing standards, to ensure the quality and maintainability of automated solutions.
- Communicate and collaborate with business area stakeholders to coordinate development efforts in support of business needs.
- Lead the development and maintenance of documentation, ensuring content is well organized, complete, and appropriate to the audience.
- Ensure project schedules are met or renegotiated and approved prior to target dates.
- Communicate progress and issues affecting work assignments to management or the Project Manager in a timely manner.
- Follow established change management code migration processes.
- Mentor junior-level staff in the development, testing, and deployment of new or modified solutions.
- Review application database change requests to determine downstream effects on warehouse ETLs and consult the Data Dictionary for related dependencies.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- 6 years of experience in a medium to large information technology environment, including increasing responsibility for development, design, and deployment activities.
- 6 years of experience using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
- 4 years of experience using Microsoft Azure DevOps and Git, with emphasis on deployment, version control, and project tracking.
- 5 years of experience with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint.
- 4 years of experience with Oracle databases, including 2 years of experience with Oracle version 12c.
- 4 years of experience using Microsoft SQL Server.
- 2 years of experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud database services.
- 2 years of experience with database object migration and validation tools.
- 2 years of experience with ETL development, monitoring, and batch or automated scheduled data processing.
- 2 years of knowledge of database structures and theories.
- 2 years of experience with enterprise information management processes and methodologies, relational database management systems, and metadata management.
- 2 years of knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to personally identifiable information (PII), data management, and data governance.
- 2 years of general knowledge of technology across all network layers and computer platforms.
- 2 years of experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and project plan development.
- 2 years of experience communicating complex technical information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, to diverse audiences.
- 2 years of experience working in fast-paced, changing environments, meeting project deliverables and deadlines, exercising sound judgment, and analyzing complex information to develop plans addressing identified issues.
- Skill in interpersonal relationships, including the ability to work with people under pressure, negotiate among multiple parties, resolve conflicts, and maintain effective working relationships with personnel at various levels.
- 2 years of hands-on experience with the RRC LoneSTAR application, SSIS bridge, and related databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of experience with ETL development and data warehouse monitoring.
- 5 years of development experience using Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server, SQL, systems analysis, and systems design, or other relevant information technology experience.
- 5 years of development experience using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
- 5 years of development experience using Microsoft Azure Cloud databases.
- 5 years of experience using Microsoft Azure DevOps and Git.
- 2 years of general knowledge of Informatica or a similar ETL tool.
- 2 years of knowledge of master data, metadata, reference data, data warehousing, and business intelligence principles and processes, including technical architecture.
- 2 years of experience with data-focused projects, such as migrating from legacy systems to newer systems.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in data processing, computer science, business administration, or a related field.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must satisfy criminal background checks as authorized by Texas law.
- Work performed beyond 40 hours per week must be pre-approved and coordinated with the Railroad Commission of Texas.
- Candidate may be required to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as requested.
