Role Summary

The fast-growing NSG SRE-DevOps team is responsible for supporting our NSG Product teams to deliver the infrastructure required to provide public-facing infrastructure and Cloud services to both internal and external customers. This includes architecting, designing, and building new infrastructure and applications, as well as acting in a level 3 and 4 support capacity for our SRE-DevOps function.

 As an SRE-DevOps Engineer, you will use your development and operational experience of cloud-native applications & infrastructure, skills in AWS, python development, and systems administration. Your extensive skills and experience will be put to good use in continually modernizing, scaling, and hardening an infrastructure that keeps pace with a fast-moving industry.

What You Will Do

• Create cloud infrastructure resources in AWS & Kubernetes via automation using IaC such as Terraform, Helm, Github & Github Actions.
• Create & deploy monitoring via automation using Monitoring as Code (MaC) such as Terraform & Grafana.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Build and run enterprise-quality DevOps tooling for Engineering teams including ArgoCD, BackStageIO and Grafana.
• Work with engineering functions to develop and deliver innovative solutions to problems found in production.
• Works with your colleagues and other engineering teams to identify areas of opportunity and propose improvements to internal and/or production infrastructure.
• Use your Cloud Services, DevOps/SRE experience to prevent incidents from ever happening
• Build highly effective observability and monitoring solutions that alert on symptoms rather than on outages. Deliver strong metrics, alerting, and tracing.
• Identify operational processes suitable for automation and drive the implementation of solutions.
• Carry personal responsibility for high-quality changes to a live production infrastructure.
• Create estimates and work plans then deliver according to those plans in an agile manner.
• Be part of an on-call rotation; Occasionally participate during, or outside of, working hours in incident resolution as a subject matter expert.
• Occasionally carry out changes outside of normal working hours.

What You Will Bring

• Minimum 5 years experience in building secure, cloud-native applications using AWS managed services.
• Ability to design, implement, and operate automated production class, reliable deployment pipelines.
• Development experience in creating complex AWS services using Terraform and automation.
• Development experience in creating Kubernetes resources using Helm.
• Python development, including serverless environments.
• Linux systems administration.
• Demonstrable experience in delivering modern DevOps practices for the full development lifecycle.
• ArgoCD operations and pipeline development.
• BackstageIO operations and plugin integration.
• Effective communication in a variety of settings: one on one, small, and large groups.
• Adapts approach and demeanor to match the demands of the situation.
• Customer advisory (internal to Sophos) on best practices for operational-related activity.
• Experience working as part of a global organization with engineering teams across multiple time zones and cultures.
• A passion for keeping pace with industry trends, technologies, and their appropriate implementation.

In Canada, the base salary for this role ranges from $94,000 to $156,000. In addition to base salary, we offer additional compensation including bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s specific pay within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including job-related skills, training, location, experience, relevant education, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
