F&G is hiring for a Sr. Underwriting Consultant.

The role will supports both large case underwriting and relationship building for key distribution relationships while also assisting to build out technical underwriting needs supporting the Director, Technical Underwriting.  The role works large cases with the underwriting team establishing and applying the stated guidelines.  It also supports the expansion and routine uplift of underwriting guidelines.  Building awareness with competitive details finding the balance of supporting the guidelines and expected mortality pricing.  Role may also become involved in other technical underwriting projects to support the success of the overall department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and price formal life insurance applications using company specific guidelines
  • Mentor and review applications from other underwriters handling routine applications over large case death benefit threshold
  • Understand guidelines with a lens to recommend changes where appropriate
  • Communicate underwriting guidelines and decisions using critical thinking skills
  • Work independently to succeed both individually and drive the department and organization goals
  • Champion change following the operation’s goal to drive continuous process improvement

Experience and Education Requirements

  • AA or BA degree preferred
  • Relevant experience considered in lieu of degree
  • 5+ years of Life Underwriting experience including large cases, detailed medical impairment understanding, and alternative methods and requirements for predictive information
  • $2-5 million life approval limit
  • Proven track record for success with customer relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with alternative requirements and underwriting data sources and tools.
  • FLMI and FALU designations or proven track records to completing these designations.
  • Reinsurance experience preferred

  • Provides guidance on what information to gather to achieve business objectives and how to efficiently obtain information that is not easily available.
  • Seeks challenging assignments and projects
  • Understands and demonstrates commitment to the departmental vision, strategy, change initiatives and goals.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve department performance and escalates ideas to leadership.
  • Leads/participates in process improvement activities.
  • Brings technical strength in this area to support the risk assessment and pricing/rating functions needed.
  • Sets, monitors and holds accountability for priorities and goals that ensure objectives are met during the allocated time period.
  • Expected to provide regulatory subject matter expertise in area of focus.

  • Some travel may be required (less than 10%)
