Position Overview:
A senior technical leader on the IT Infrastructure team responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and evangelizing Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud solutions across the enterprise. The Sr. Technical Architect – AWS serves as the organization's primary subject matter expert for AWS cloud architecture, providing a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic planning, project management, and mentorship to drive cloud adoption and innovation.
This role is responsible for the full lifecycle management of AWS environments supporting mission-critical omnichannel contact center operations (Amazon Connect), serverless application architectures, AI/ML implementations including generative AI coding assistants and agentic AI solutions, and cross-portfolio cloud servicing systems. The Sr. Technical Architect acts as a cloud evangelist, guiding organizational learning, establishing best practices, and ensuring security and compliance across all AWS workloads in a student loan servicing environment.

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cloud Computing, or related field (additional experience above the required minimum may substitute)
- 8 years progressive experience working in Information Technology
- 5 years of direct hands-on experience architecting and managing AWS environments.
- Demonstrated expertise with Amazon Connect, including contact flows, Lex bots, Lambda integrations, and custom telephony/dialer solutions.
- Strong experience with serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront).
- Experience implementing and managing AI/ML services on AWS, including Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker, or equivalent generative AI platforms.
- Proven ability to design and manage multi-account AWS environments with proper governance, security controls, and cost management.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform).
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AWS services with on-premise systems, third-party APIs, and legacy applications.
- Strong project management skills with experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Must be focused, self-directed, meet commitments, take ownership, and demonstrate excellent judgment and integrity.
- Available to work non-standard hours on an as-needed basis and participate in on-call support rotation for critical systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional or AWS DevOps Engineer Professional certification.
- AWS Specialty certifications (Machine Learning, Advanced Networking, or Security).
- Experience with contact center technologies and omnichannel platforms / Amazon Connect.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (Amazon Q, Claude, Kiro, GitHub Copilot).
- Experience managing and mentoring technical staff or contractors.
- Knowledge of ITIL, Agile, or other IT service management frameworks.
- Preference will be given to candidates who reside within a reasonable commuting distance of a MOHELA location.
