Description
PingWind is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs Testing Services for VistA. This is a fully remote position. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, integration, and maintenance of complex IT systems to support organizational objectives. This role requires advanced technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers. The Senior Systems Engineer ensures system reliability, scalability, security, and performance while aligning with business and mission requirements.

Responsibilities
Develop, design, and implement enterprise-level systems, networks, and infrastructure solutions.
• Evaluate system requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Ensure scalability, security, and performance of system designs.
• Install, configure, and integrate operating systems, applications, and system tools.
• Coordinate system upgrades, migrations, and deployments with minimal downtime.
• Automate processes and workflows to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
• Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across environments.
• Ensure systems comply with security standards, policies, and best practices.
• Work with cross-functional teams including software engineers, network engineers, cybersecurity, and project managers.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers and staff.
• Create and maintain system documentation.
• Conduct testing:
1.Unit Testing – of individual units of source code to determine if they are fit for use.
2.Integration Testing – of modules which are combined and tested as a group. The Contractor shall perform integration testing to ensure code maintenance activities do not affect the following dependent interfacing systems.
3.Regression Testing – against all previous test cases and results to ensure that new code, functionality, or new releases have not introduced errors to existing functionality.
4.Functional Testing – that tests the front and back-end functionality of the code to ensure that all the data entry, user interface, encryption, and application calculations are working correctly.
5.Security Testing – conduct software code vulnerability scans and testing that ensures the software is free of any potential vulnerabilities or weaknesses, risks, or threats. The Contractor shall provide certified scan reports validating the required code quality.
6.Database Testing – to include shadowing, mirroring, journaling, lock table assessment, performance for global read/writes, load testing, daylight savings time freeze, backup/restore, and system and database failure/recovery
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering or technical discipline
• 5 years relevant experience.

• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Flexible, able to adapt to different customer groups and expectations
• Experience working in and with cross-functional teams

• U.S. Citizenship; Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
