ABOUT THE POSITION

This person will be in a cornerstone role in a growing IT team supporting Avantus’ best-in-class renewable team and shaping the future of clean energyThis opportunity is a chance to help drive maturity of our IT systems and solutions portfolio at a pivotal point in the company’s growth and set the stage for an enterprise IT environment with scale as a target. 

This role will have influence and heavy technical involvement in our Tenant Management (primarily Azure, as well as AWS, and several remote offices), IAM (Azure), Compliance, Cost Management (Azure/AWS), and Service Oriented Ecosystem.  

Your role focuses on maintaining and improving infrastructure and network services (both physical and virtual) in our cloud platforms and physical spaces. You will also be involved in new service rollouts (in a technical and project management capacity). This will include working collaboratively with various stakeholders involved on software and infrastructure project roll outs, as well as interfacing with executives, staff, vendors, and external IT solutions partners. 

You will have the opportunity and responsibility to identify areas for improvement, evaluate potential solutions, and implement them, with support from the broader IT team, as well as from additional external resources. This role requires a deep understanding of technology and a drive for continuous improvement to enhance our technical foundation of cloud services and physical spaces by identifying areas that require improvement and implementing solutions to address them.  


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the Senior Manager of IT to implement projects that build upon or enhance our underlying infrastructure (e.g. infrastructure and network designs, from disaster recovery systems, application integrations and rollouts, to governance of policy definition and policy structures).
  • Maintain and keep up-to-date infrastructure services.
  • Create, maintain, and continually enhance documentation and status tracking through runbooks, change management processes, and IT ticketing systems and project trackers.
  • Add new and existing services into our monitoring, metrics, and alerting platform.
  • Leverage our established integration platform to build and support integrations between business applications that streamlines the transfer of business data across systems while maintaining appropriate controls.
  • Drive implementations and changes, with the help of internal IT support staff and external consultants, as necessary.
  • Participate in the shared responsibilities of IT team members to monitor security logging dashboards and alerts to triage and escalate security incidents as appropriate.
  • Maintain and keep up-to-date infrastructure and network license and support contracts.
  • Provide an escalation path for infrastructure service outages and junior IT support staff; address and remediate fixes.


REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in enterprise systems and network administration and design, with crossover knowledge and experience of the Azure ecosystem. 
  • Experience in project implementation of SaaS, IaaS and PaaS services with deep technical involvement. 
  • A broad and varied understanding of system functions, from on-prem to cloud (concepts are more important than specifics, though both count).
  • The ability to reason through tough problems critically, with the understanding that “not everything is a nail” problem. You can articulate and defend a use case for when to go serverless, containerization, or virtualization.
  • The understanding of best practices, but you also understand why they are the way they are, the assumptions they make, and nuances around how and when to apply them in various situations.
  • Experience in automation, whether through processes, scripting, or IaC (eg: SharePoint/PowerAutomate, PowerShell/YAML, or Bicep/Terraform/Ansible).
  • Experience working with APIs typically provided by SaaS platforms.
  • Experience integrating applications via API is a plus.
  • Experience with the following technologies are a plus: Meraki, DataDog, SnapLogic, Rapid7, FreshService, Enterprise versions of the following: Zoom, Slack, Box, SmartSheet.
