The Role

Equus provides computer hardware and related services to cloud computing technology companies, both directly and through channels. The Senior System Engineer role ensures customer success by focusing on engineering best practices and supporting the delivery of quality computing hardware and related solutions. The Senior System Engineer is responsible for design, development, prototype, implementation, and verification and validation of computing subsystems and system integration. The Senior System Engineer works with internal stakeholders, customers, and vendors to develop solutions utilizing teamwork and technical due diligence. The position requires a strong understanding of COTS-based computing technologies, engineering or product development mechanisms, and qualification and quality approaches. Additionally, the role is responsible for enabling a disciplined approach to all aspects of engineering activities, internal improvement activities, ownership of scheduled milestones, on-time completion, and supporting internal stakeholder (e.g., product management, sales, service, and manufacturing).

  • Perform engineering activities to develop and qualify computing platforms and solutions through requirements definition, system design, implementation, verification and validation, and data analysis.
  • Participate in stakeholder requirements elicitation through engagements with customers, vendors, product management, sales, and others.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine the most appropriate technology solution for customer and market needs.
  • Participate or lead project planning activities including milestone development, risk management, estimation and execution, and ownership of on-time success.
  • Design and implement product requirements utilizing COTS-based solutions including component selection and analysis, integration and qualification of individual components, performance characteristics qualification, environmental considerations, and manufacturability.
  • Install and configure operating systems, software applications, and various software-based components to perform troubleshooting, verification, validation, and system qualification.
  • Identify the methods and mechanisms to objectively qualify all configurations of product requirements and any defined stakeholder needs including working with the Manufacturing teams to ensure an efficient and appropriate hand-off. Ensure all conclusions reached comply with solution requirements and needs.
  • Develop supporting documentation, summarize all verification and validation results, analyze and interpolate test data, record pass/fail results, and justify conclusions reached in compliance of product requirements.
  • Overcome limitations and risks proactively through experimentation, investigation, and research necessary to fulfill the successful implementation and management of all customer or product needs.
  • Works in collaboration with Product Management, Sales, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Quality, and Customer Service to resolve identified issues throughout the development process and supporting sustaining engineering activities.

  • Manufacturing engagement, integration, and support (15%)
  • Planning, organizing, communicating, and documentation (15%)
  • Support existing programs and sustaining engineering activities (10%)
  • Process development, improvements, lab organization and management (10%)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Five to seven years of experience in system design, solution design, IT, Cloud computing, or related.
  • IT or Technical Computing Certification (e.g., CompTIA A+, Cloud+, Security+) is a plus.
  • Experience in product development, quality assurance, or sustaining engineering in a technology field a plus.
  • Strong understanding of computer components, function, assembly, and interaction.
  • Basic understanding and experience with electronics, engineering, engineering drawings, specifications, data sheets, and technical manuals.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows and Linux and underlying software-based applications.
  • Familiar and capable of using test facilities and equipment to collect and analyze data to qualify products.
  • Experience with information systems and records management including project management process, work estimation, and managing daily output and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving, analytical reasoning, interpreting customer problems and troubleshooting root cause.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and with various non-engineering teams.
  • Ability to lead process improvement activities and participate and support inter-department improvement activities that reduce time-to-market and associated development costs.
  • Ability to work with multiple competing priorities and meet reasonable deadlines.
  • Must be experienced, comfortable, and effective presenting to internal (employees) and external (customers, suppliers) groups.
  • Strong customer relationship skills.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Willingness to develop professionally.
  • Salary range: $100-$150k
