Job Description
Job Summary:
Responsible for the continuing engineering, technical support of released products, and support in transferring new products to the manufacturing floor. Continuing engineering tasks entail designing, developing, modifying, and evaluating electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for product improvements, product cost reductions, component obsolescence, and maintaining product regulatory & safety compliance. Technical support tasks include production line, customer service, and purchasing support. Transferring new product tasks include ensuring technical files, test fixtures and processes are properly documented for manufacturing to perform the function of their jobs. May supervise the activities of others.
Detailed Description:
- Provide analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of electronic parts, components, or integrated circuitry for hardware systems.
- Research potential alternate electronic components.
- Schematic design and maintenance.
- Printed circuit board layout and maintenance.
- Participate in schematic, PCB, and potentially firmware design reviews.
- Develop and maintenance test strategies on a variety of computer hardware including circuit boards, processors, wiring, test fixtures and systems.
- Analyze equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests and evaluate results.
- Supports existing products by troubleshooting and failure analysis.
- Maintain regulatory & safety compliance for released products.
- Identify and implement improvements and cost saving measures for released products.
- Participate in multidepartment product line quality meetings.
- Exhibit professional conduct with a high level of integrity.
- Brief others on deliverables, status, and progress
- Apply sound and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.
Requirements:
- Experience with analog and digital electronics circuit design.
- Experience working with schematics and printed circuit board layout software; Altium preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of electronic sensors and controls.
- Knowledge of system interfaces and protocols.
- Proactive mindset with strong sense of responsibility and ownership.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex problems while applying planning and organizational methods.
- Ability to drive change, and to work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects.
- A practical understanding of standard engineering and documentation processes.
- Knowledge of stepper motors and mechanical drive systems.
- Knowledge of IEC safety and emissions standards.
- Experience with soldering and de-soldering.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, vendors, and customers.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Nice to have (not required) Experience with microcontroller/microprocessor firmware creation, or similar experience including familiarity with the C programming language.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in EE, EET, or CE from a four-year college or university.
- 2-5 years’ experience of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Other engineering or science degree considered with strong experience in, and emphasis on, electronics design and electro-mechanical systems.
Travel:
5-10% Expected
