The Sr Staff Software Engineer, Applied AI builds production‑grade AI systems and platform capabilities that scale across Cytiva. This role closes the gap between experimentation and production by hardening proofs‑of‑concept into reliable, secure, and reusable components for LLM and agent‑based systems. You will operate as a technical leader in our fastest‑growing area, materially increasing delivery capacity and engineering rigor for applied AI.
This position reports to the Sr Director, Digital & AI Engineering and is part of the Digital, Data & AI team located in Krakow, Poland and will be an on-site role.
What you will do:
Design, build, and operate production‑grade AI systems, turning POCs and experiments into scalable, reliable, and secure services.
Lead architecture and implementation of LLM‑ and agent‑based systems, including orchestration, tool use, evaluation, observability, and guardrails.
Develop reusable software components, libraries, and platform capabilities that accelerate applied AI delivery across teams.
Partner closely with product, data, and MLOps to ensure AI solutions meet standards for performance, reliability, safety, and lifecycle management.
Act as a technical leader and multiplier, setting engineering best practices, reviewing designs and code, and raising the bar for applied AI development.
Who you are:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Significant software engineering experience, including building and operating large‑scale, production systems.
Strong experience designing and delivering AI‑enabled or data‑intensive systems, with hands‑on experience in LLM‑based or agent‑oriented architectures.
Deep software engineering fundamentals, including system design, APIs, reliability, performance, security, and production operations.
Proven ability to lead technically across teams, influence architecture and standards, and operate effectively in ambiguous problem spaces.
