Job Description SummaryAs a Sr. Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for defining and implementing the observability strategy across our next-generation cloud-native healthcare services. You will lead the design of scalable, secure, and innovative observability frameworks that empower engineering teams to build resilient, performant, and diagnosable systems. This role is critical to ensuring our platform meets the highest standards of reliability, compliance, and operational excellence.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Define and evolve the observability vision and roadmap for our cloud-native healthcare platform.
  • Architect and implement standardized observability frameworks (metrics, logs, traces, events, profiling) across services.
  • Collaborate with platform, SRE, and product teams to instrument services using OpenTelemetry and other modern observability tooling.
  • Build and maintain dashboards, alerts, and SLOs that reflect both technical and business health indicators.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and optimize observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Tempo, Loki, Elastic).
  • Lead incident analysis and postmortem reviews, driving improvements in system resilience and observability coverage.
  • Ensure observability practices align with healthcare compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST).
  • Mentor engineers and promote a culture of observability-first development.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’ s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, SRE - Site Reliability Engineering or platform engineering roles.
  • 6+ years of experience architecting observability solutions in cloud-native environments (Kubernetes, microservices, serverless).
  • Deep expertise in observability pillars (metrics, logs, traces) and tools like Open Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, etc.
  • Strong programming/scripting skills (e.g., Go, Python, Bash, Terraform).
  • Experience with distributed tracingSLO/SLI frameworks, and incident response workflows.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare or regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and compliance (HIPAA, HITRUST).
  • Experience with cost optimization and telemetry data governance.
  • Contributions to open-source observability projects.
  • Passion for building developer-friendly tools and frameworks.

Business Acumen:

  • Adept at navigating the organizational matrix; understanding people's roles, can foresee obstacles, identify workarounds, leverage resources and rally teammates.
  • Understand how internal and/or external business model works and facilitate active customer engagement
  • Able to articulate the value of what is most important to the business/customer to achieve outcomes
  • Able to produce functional area information in sufficient detail for cross-functional teams to utilize, using presentation and storytelling concepts.

Leadership:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of internal organization
  • Foresee obstacles, identify workarounds, leverage resources, rally teammates.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and/or lead blended teams, including 3rd party partners and customer personnel.
  • Demonstrated Change Management /Acceleration capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including creativity and curiosity with ability to effectively communicate and influence across all organizational levels
  • Proven analytical and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to influence and build consensus with other Information Technology (IT) teams and leadership.
