Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking an experienced Sr. Staff Airworthiness Engineer - Technical Excellence to join our cybersecurity team in Melbourne, FL.
Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems’ AWWSC Directorate, headquartered in Melbourne, FL, has an immediate opening for a motivated Airworthiness Engineer to support Technical Excellence strategies, including the development of Policy, Process & Procedures, Education & Training, Tools, Common Products, Digital Strategies, and other common approaches and methodologies.

Within the Governance & Independence group, the Airworthiness & Weapon Systems Cybersecurity (AWWSC) Technical Excellence Integration & Operation’s strategy focuses on workforce development, processes, and tools. Additionally, our organization’s framework consistently and logically aligns disciplines to support program execution across the full lifecycle of an air system, while unlocking capacity to elevate technical merit and excellence within each discipline.
Essential Duties:
- Develop and maintain processes, tools, training, and other strategic roadmaps
- Represent the AWWSC on sector councils
- Develop and maintain governance, processes, roles, tools, and the AWWSC workforce
- Counsel on program-specific governance, processes, procedures
- Develop and maintain metrics for AWWSC, programs, staff
- Assess, develop, sustain, and conduct training
- Enterprise / Industry collaboration
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 14 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 12 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with 10 years of experience.
- Experience with the development of plans and certification bases in achieving the logical and systematic realization of compliance using DoW policy, MIL-HDBK-516, civil, and international standards into solutions that meet program objectives to obtain airworthiness and cybersecurity approvals.
- Experience with reviews and coordination of other Airworthiness and/or Cybersecurity Engineers, as well as with internal engineering disciplines at all levels of the air system including design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance.
- Experience with functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, hardware and software specifications for compliance to the appropriate regulations, standards, and/or guidelines.
- Experience with airworthiness and/or cybersecurity activities throughout the air system lifecycle.
- Proven ability to work cross functionally with subject matter experts, engineers, analysts, and senior leaders.
- Ability to obtain U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of delivering clear guidance and conducting workshops for engineers.
- Support modernization by providing vision, focus, guiding principles, essential capabilities, and goals necessary to evolve the team into a robust digital-centric organization.
- Familiarity of MIL-HDBK-516C or D
- Civil/Military aircraft development or modification experience
- Knowledge, Skills and Ability: Applies extensive technical expertise and has strong knowledge of other related disciplines.
- Problem Solving: Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Discretion/Latitude Work is performed without appreciable direction.
- Experience with domestic or international standards development organizations
- Experience with disciplined-based maturity models
- Experience with digital engineering approaches & methodologies such as MBSE tools
- Familiarity with the DoW acquisition process
- A current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR/SAP).
