The Role

This role is an excellent opportunity to join the Therapeutics Research Operations team at Moderna. The position is critical to the operational success of multiple Therapeutics Research departments and will allow for partnering with our scientific teams as we advance a dynamic and growing portfolio. The candidate will work closely with researchers and interface with a broad variety of internal groups such as Facilities, Lab Safety and EH&S, Logistics, Procurement, Business Operations, and Early Program Management. He/she/they will be expected to propose and lead initiatives to increase efficiency, improve communication, expand operational excellence, and facilitate collaboration between the support teams and the research groups.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Oversee the daily operational needs of the research labs including equipment management, sample inventory management, safety management, cold storage management, and management of common lab supplies and reagents

  • Interface with Procurement, Logistics, Shipping, Facilities, and Trade Compliance teams for day-to-day smooth operations and expansion

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for departmental equipment purchasing interactions

  • Proficiently manage mRNA supply chain and inventory in collaboration with scientific partners

  • Champion lab user needs with information technologies to ensure and drive effective operational success in research labs and offices

  • Lead the development of efficient, standardized lab operations workflows

  • Help build, maintain, and improve operational infrastructure

  • Assist in planning and organization of new laboratories

  • Collaborate with the research teams with the understanding that your work is the foundation of our science

  • Facilitate operational workflows in facilities, shipping, and purchasing to meet program and departmental goals

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • B.S. or B.A. in a biological (or other related) science

  • Minimum 5-8 years research and lab operations experience

  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, and ELN/sample management software is required

  • Past expertise and thorough understanding in defining, implementing, and supporting operational solutions in an academic, biotech, or pharma industry setting

  • Advanced ability to prioritize and facilitate multiple workstreams involving multiple key stakeholders

  • Prior experience with developing novel solutions or solution enhancements to address common operational or resource challenges and optimize processes and tools

  • You are comfortable acting as an owner with a high degree of independence, enjoy interacting with end users, and have a track record of working cross-organizationally to achieve operational goals in a fast-moving research organization with limited supervision

  • Track record of learning new software and systems is preferred
