The Senior Array Software Technical Product Manager is a market-facing, commercially focused technical product leader responsible for the product strategy, roadmap, and commercial success of Illumina's array software portfolio — DRAGEN Array, DesignStudio, and legacy array informatics tools.

This role sits at the intersection of Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customers, ensuring that our array software products resonate with enterprise life sciences customers and drive measurable business impact. The ideal candidate brings experience in life sciences software or genomics, strong exposure to enterprise customers, and a proven ability to translate customer and market insights into detailed product requirements and go-to-market execution.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap Ownership

  • Own the end-to-end product roadmap for DRAGEN Array, DesignStudio, and legacy array software
  • Define product requirements based on customer needs, competitive landscape, and business objectives
  • Prioritize features and capabilities in collaboration with engineering, balancing customer value against development cost and timeline
  • Drive product lifecycle decisions — launch, iteration, deprecation, and end-of-life planning
  • Partner with Engineering to ensure roadmap decisions align with commercial impact and market readiness

Market & Customer Leadership

  • Act as the voice of array software customers, representing customer needs, workflows, and buying drivers
  • Lead Voice of Customer (VoC) efforts including customer interviews, field engagement, advisory boards, and win/loss analysis
  • Develop and maintain customer personas, buyer profiles, and use-case narratives across array segments (e.g., genotyping, pharmacogenomics, polygenic risk scoring, biobank)
  • Partner closely with Sales, Customer Success, and Field Marketing to identify commercial gaps, expansion opportunities, and adoption barriers

Positioning, Messaging & Differentiation

  • Own product positioning, value propositions, and messaging for the array software portfolio
  • Translate complex technical capabilities into clear, compelling, customer-centric narratives tailored for enterprise buyers and decision makers
  • Lead competitive analysis and market intelligence efforts across the array informatics landscape; identify actionable differentiation and competitive response strategies
  • Influence product strategy by clearly articulating market problems, unmet needs, and commercial opportunities

Go-to-Market Strategy & Execution

  • Define and drive go-to-market strategies for new array software launches, major releases, and platform capabilities
  • Enable Sales and Customer Success through sales plays, enablement materials, demos, pricing/packaging input, and objection handling
  • Support enterprise deals including customer briefings, RFPs, technical/commercial narratives, and executive presentations
  • Drive adoption metrics — monitor usage, identify barriers to adoption, and execute programs to increase customer engagement

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Connect the Arrays business unit and array workflows to all relevant software tools across the SWI portfolio — including Orchestration, Cloud Platform, Multiomics, Oncology Interpretation, and Genetic Disease Interpretation — ensuring array customers benefit from the full breadth of Illumina's software capabilities
  • Coordinate with regulatory/quality on compliance requirements for clinical array applications
  • Align with other software TPMs on shared platform capabilities, infrastructure dependencies, and portfolio-level strategy

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
  • Strong analytical skills required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to present complex ideas and information clearly and succinctly in a group setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in requirements gathering, development & scrum product owner role
